15 years after Joe Calzaghe destroyed Jeff Lacy I'm asking how does a prime Joe Calzaghe do with today's Canelo? I think he beats him and I explain why. Also few highlights of both and the Lacy fight. Give me your thoughts? This content is protected
Spite thread. You know who everyone's gonna pick and you're not really looking for intelligent/insightful discussions. That being said going with the obvious, Calzaghe by UD or late stoppage.
You don't think JC's high output play into CA's countetpunching capabilities? Also, the Lacy version of JC didn't sit down on his punches enough to concern Canelo. This could lead Canelo to walking JC down. I don't know who I pick.
How did Canelo get so strong? At this rate people will think he will walk down Beterbiev.. the hell I think he might walk down prime Big George!!
Joe Calzaghe would never approach someone like Canelo the same way he would a Jeff Lacy, they are two VERY different fighters. First of all, Calzaghe against Lacy wasn't a prime Calzaghe, that was Calzaghe after multiple hand injuries. After those injuries, his hands were never the same and he relied on a high output and awkward slap like punches to win fights (which is why a lot of people on this forum like to call him Calslappy). Regardless of which Calzaghe you are talking about, there's no way Canelo beats either. Calzaghe, hand issues and style change aside, always had INSANE stamina, a decent chin and Loma-like angles. He's all wrong for Canelo regardless of which Calzaghe we're talking about. Someone who gets outboxed by Erislandy Lara and was getting outboxed by a much smaller Amir Khan has no business being in the same conversation as someone like Joe Calzaghe. Only chance Canelo has would be to fight him in Vegas with those infamous Golden Boy judges
There are actually people who think Calzaghe would be awarded a win on the cards......against Canelo........
He is like a bull. Chin is top quality. I thought Kovalev was hurting him though. That's why Kovalev was outboxing him so much until he gassed. I think Canelo was feeling the shots.
He hasn't showed strength. He rarely gets into clinches and he doesn't manhandle or walk people backwards either. He power has travelled up well (a) body punches always hurt (b) his technique is brilliant and (c) his punch selection is enough to neutralise his opponent and slow them down.
Don't see Canelo winning on points, due to Joes massive output, also don't see Joe knocking Canelo out due to Joe being a bit of a slapper. Probably Joe on points, or less likely Canelo KOs Joe. Only two options I see.
Lord have mercy Joe would beat the **** out of him. Zero chance of Clen winning on points legitimately and zero chance of him knocking him out.
I agree, also probably the reason he doesn't wanna go back up to 175, Reynoso admits Canelo gives up to many advantages at LHW.
