Saunders has been ducking Canelo for years, but in fairness to him there really haven't been all that many opportunities to make the fight. Saunders had the nasal sniffing scandal, the other scandal remember he got stripped of his title and stripped of his boxing license for doing that video with the hooker and the other video about how to beat your wife. Saunders is a mental case outside the ring, and until recently wasn't really a viable opponent for Canelo. But in the ring when he trains properly, he's a hell of a fighter and maybe the greatest stylistic challenge for Canelo out there.
I don't disagree, but at the same time, Saunders fault or not, until now, the fight realistically couldn't be made. Saunders didn't win a SMW Title till May 2019. You couldn't realistically expect Saunders to make his first defense vs Canelo in late 2019, before Canelo even won a full SMW World Title. Both needed at least a defense or 2 at the weight before making this Superfight. It made sense to wait until both were established SMW Champs. And remember the last year it was pretty much impossible to make a big fight due to Covid, only now are we possibly entering a period of time where maybe fans can pack arenas or stadiums once again. You had a natural progression of both Canelo and Saunders moving up from Middleweight to SMW, you had outside the ring stuff with Saunders, then you had Covid for the last year. This fight really never was a viable fight to make until now.
Those may have only been the two rounds that Jacobs won but 90% of his shots just bounced off Canelo`s gloves.
OMG, IntentionalButt and I are way better judges than you!!! Go back and rewatch it, it wasn't quite the toying you thought it was.
He missed most of his shots, he did land the occasional power shot, but Canelo was well on top during the whole fight, it wasn`t close at all.
BJS has never been KO'ed before. So, I don't think that Canelo can KO him. BJS runs like hell whenever he steps up in the ring.
Canelo schooled Jacobs, Jacobs didn't even come close to winning a round until the 2nd half of the fight. Canelo was dominating so much I think he let Jacobs back in a little bit to make some rounds close down the stretch. Jacobs arguably made a little mini-comeback towards the end but it was far little too late. No one's dominated Jacobs like Canelo did, it was a total schooling. For anyone to argue Jacobs won 5 or 6 rounds is comical.
I thought the same thing about Fat Andy Ruiz. He had even more motivation to come into the second Joshua fight in the best shape of his career and he looked worse than ever. I like Canelo and BJS and wanted to see this fight several years ago when they were both at 160. The only reason BJS is at SMW is the fact that he’s too lazy to make 160. He’s a true MW. You can probably say the same thing about Canelo (being a natural MW) but he’s so disciplined, he moves up without necessarily packing on fat. BJS looks sloppy at 168. BJS looked great against C level Lemmy but we haven’t seen that version of BJS in a long time. He may want to get back to that form and might even get in the best shape of his life. I just hope his skills haven’t eroded to a point where he is unable to come back that sharp. I’m a boxing fan and really want to see a great fight so I’m hoping we see that form of BJS when he fights Canelo. Lastly, I know you are a big Canelo fan and are already trying to puff up BJS no matter which version we see in May. Canelo fans will consider any version of BJS “prime and peak” just like you guys did with Kov because you don’t want to diminish the significance of Canelo’s victory. Haters will do the opposite, I get it. I just want to see a good fight between two guys in peak shape. We will know very early on - when they meet - how much petrol BJS has in the tank and how seriously he trained. Anything less than top form and it’s going to be a rough night for Saunders.
If BJS trains and prepares properly, then the fight goes the distance and he beats Canelo. Unfortunately for him, at the same time, he will lose on the pre-approved judges scorecards.
