Whyte vs Povetkin

People overly harsh on Whyte again here. He stayed active and got caught by someone past it but someone who still has power and elite level technique to pull off moments like that. That shot was perfect and could have knocked anyone out so I’m not having the chinny jibes. He was exhausted against Parker so I don’t think that one counts. He’s not the best defensively so gets caught and therefore hurt more but others seem to get more leeway for the ‘learning on the job’ lack of amateur stuff.

He had earned his right to get in that position he was in. He’d have been slated had he just sat there waiting forever like the likes of Callum Smith did. I get the hate for the drug stuff but that’s as much to do with the system allowing him to get away with it.

Povetkin has every right for this pay day. Let’s be honest it wasn’t put in for his benefit. It was put in for insurance for if he did what he did to Eddie’s boy. He is well within his rights to think he can beat Whyte again as well. This is quite an interesting fight still in my opinion.

 

Reckon? If you’d just obliterated someone like that you wouldn’t care that you’d lost every round and was almost stopped in the other rounds. You’d be thinking big pay day and I’ll get him again. If he doesn’t it doesn’t really harm his career.

I don’t know how bad he had it but let’s not forget the overwhelming majority of people who have Covid much older than Povetkin have no lasting symptoms.

I actually like this fight more than most at heavy. I’m not a big fan of most of the heavies though.

 

Does anyone miss Aydamn? Those stories about him beating a marathon runner in treadmill, teachers giving him standing ovations, him being a freelance writer and taking down entire law firms, going to a grocery store and hearing some random guys talking about what a great man Dillian Whyte is etc.

Yeah I do get what you mean, there is an intrigue to it but PPV mate? Whyte is game and up for a scrap but ability wise he's as good as Chisora for me.

It is an intriguing fight, no doubt about that.

I think it is 50/50. Povetkin is a shot fighter but he can still punch as we saw in the last fight.

Question marks around Whyte for me. Firstly, he tires badly during a fight. This negates the youth element here as Povetkin gasses badly himself. Secondly, I know the punch for Povetkin knocks out pretty much all HWs but I have concerns over Whytes chin. He gets hurt most fights (Rivas, Parker) and the brutal KO won’t have helped matters there. Thirdly, can he stick to a gameplan. Can he keep this long and not leave himself in harms way. Whyte seems fearless which has its pros and cons. He needs a win here, badly. It may not make for the most entertaining fight but exchanging at short to mid range with someone who throws shorter punches is a recipe for disaster.

I am not keen on this being a PPV, it should be a really good main event on a standard Saturday night boxing card but it will sell so it goes with the territory with the precedent Sky and Matchroom have made. I won’t be buying it myself but will be a keen observer.

Whyte knows his limitations in trying to cut the ring off, it was there for all to see against Helenius. Chasing him all around the ring trying to stop him. He seemed to adapt from that fight and instead invite opponents into his geography so he could throw his short hooks and body shots.

He accepts that he's got to take to take a shots to land his own. Them shots usually go to his body cos he keeps that guard high up when under pressure. He then tries to time his own short counter. I think because he invites his opponents onto him and leaves his torso wide open he also leaves himself susceptible to them uppercuts. He's been caught with a few of them now.

Povetkin looks finished to me though. Shocking balance. Can't move on his feet and bob and weave anymore without looking unsteady. Them 2 KD's he suffered in that fight were as much to do with terrible balance imo they almost pushed him over rather than genuinely hurt him.

 

Likes to use all corners of the forum in equal measure. Similar volume of posts. Same writing style and same mistakes with grammar. Quick to call me stupid (which is fine and arguably correct). Pretends to have knowledge in weight lifting, but caught him out a couple of times on both accounts with some very noobish and similar comments. Tries to give Whyte a bit of stick, but using boxers who he finds inoffensive to do so (Ruiz, for example) so as not to blow his cover. Join date would make sense, few months to get back on. "Markus Florez" - not the guy's real name, it's a moniker, therefore why would anyone choose that? Markus is the German spelling, people use the name in Norway, too. Of course, anyone can have any name, but if he was a Florez his name would be Marcus I reckon. 99 at the end would normally denote year of birth, but the guy has 1996 on profile. He's just put that there to obscure himself. Markus Florez itself would've been available. Of course, the latter portion is just a theory, but one I think is quite convincing and makes sense for a clever double account.
