FIGHT OF THE WEEK 1- Duran vs Barkley

Interesting final score. I suspect that I gave rounds to Duran because Barkley was bigger and most of us have a tendency to pull for the little guy, especially when he tries hard and shows courage. I suspect that if there was a way to "disguise" the fighters and watch the fight with both fighters portrayed anonymously, and as the same size and doing exactly the same, that Barkley might win 8-10 rounds?

 

Better late than never -

1. Duran - Some good countering and very slippery defensive work. I had him narrowly ahead then he hurt Iran with that booming right at the end of the round to clear up any doubt.
2. Barkley - excellent early workrate and body work. Duran a couple of good clean blows late but not enough to offset Barkley's more consistent work.
3. Even - Duran with a couple of excellent punches right near the bell.
4. Even - What a round. Both landing some big blows, Duran a little cleaner but Barkely busy.
5. Barkley - Duran blowing early but not slowing, Barkley blowing a little late. Barkley busy and smashing the body at times.
6. Duran - Breather round with Duran's cleaner work carrying the stanza narrowly for mine.
7. Barkley - I feel like i'm erring by giving this round to anyone but i already have 2 rounds even. I had Barkley nicely ahead after he put a bit of a lathering on Duran but man did Duran come back with a great spurt a little later. What a round.
8. Barkley - Some terrific left hooks and brutal body work. Duran still gets in some serious licks of his own.
9. Duran - Barkley eases back a bit and Duran keeps working.
10. Duran - Barkley slows which allows Duran to go to work with some really clean well chosen shots.

This time around i have it even going into the last two.

11. Duran - 10-8. Barkely hammered in the last half of the round and looking well and truly worse for wear.
12. Duran - Close. A couple of super clean hard blows right at the end pipped it for me.

116-113 if i added correctly. Close hard to score fight.


GREAT fight. Duran was born to fight. He is just a natural and so relaxed and comfortable in there. Amazing fighter.
