Scientifically, there's never even been any proof speedbags work.

I think it helps in conditioning your shoulders to not get tired so fast....and in keeping your hands up ...It definetly is a good addition to your boxing training....if you do it fast enough (like Mayweather), notice how much it burns your shoulders....then you will understand

    Finally someone worth a shirt.

Like the saying goes. The burden of the truth should be on Charles Otto Puth.

I understand but I hate that and don't wanna feel that way.

Maybe I can't use one because I don't suck but it does. Ever think of that? RODNEY?

The speed bag is good for those that know how to use it. You dont.

Speed bags are for muscle memory and keeping limber. Nothing else. But it's not useless.

This. Muscle memory and keeping limber are two things that are extremely important for a fighter if he wants to be sharp and elusive come fight night. When used correctly the speed bag also helps with the fighter being more efficient in the ring, which is something I think has become greatly underrated.

However, the speed bag is completely useless when I see guys standing in front of the speed bag as stiff as a plank of wood and tensing up every time they hit the speed bag. Guys act like it’s illegal to move your head when working on the speed bag nowadays. It makes matters worse when trainers don’t correct their fighter using the speed bag or for that matter even heavy bags incorrectly.

Why would I take the TIME to LEARN to use something USELESS because it is SCIENTIFICALLY UNPROVEN? Don Williams sang a song where he sang "No use in running when you're on the wrong road." So, excuse me if I don't rush over 2 the gym where they keep these dumb things.

It seems that you just want to argue with people.

Why does it have to be SCIENTIFICALLY proven with data etc?

It has proven to be effective by the greatest fighters and trainers all throughout HISTORY, as well as by the greatest fighters and trainers of TODAY.

What more proof do you need exactly?

    Are you bored or something?

Do you seriously think that if it wasn’t beneficial that it would still be used by EVERYBODY?

It covers a variety of different benefits to a fighter:

    Hand eye coordination

    Timing

    Accuracy

    Concentration

    Shoulder strengthening

    A cardio workout

    Confidence

Yes, it does improve speed, as everything is intertwined.

When it’s used alongside other training equipment/techniques, it’s beneficial.

You don’t need scientific data as proof, when you have history and success as proof.

If you don’t want to learn it, then don’t.

Yes, it might be useless to you personally. But then everyone’s circumstances are different. But it’s not useless to a boxer. And if it was, it would have been discovered an awful long time ago. Give people some credit. Not everybody involved with the sport at the highest level over the last century have all been idiots.

    What a bizarre thread.

If only the PS4 had been around in the 60’s.

Dundee would have Ali playing Mario Kart in preparation for Liston.

You think I just want to argue? That's pretty insulting, honestly. I mean, for real. Damn. Anyways, the smartest people used to believe in witches and for centuries accused them of witchcraft. The smartest, richest most successful dudes in Saudi Arabia still even do that right now. But it don't make it right just cuz it's tried and true. Do it? Did John L. Sullivan use a speedbag? No, and he was one of the greatest heros ever in the sport and he never needed it to beat the drunks and farmers that was toughest when he was around, so why would I?

I think it’s probably just to condition the muscle fibres in the shoulder muscles not for strength but for mobility and fluidity in the joint

And that while he was way ahead of his time, so if it would have use, he would be the one to use it. John L came up with the idea of a gaybar about a century before it became common. Of course it wasn't called that in that time, but he wasn't secretive about it either. He openly talked about him liking to lick men in bars, because what were they going to do? Beat him up for being "different"?

I thumbed up this comment because it was informative but not like because I "Sign off on" like his lifestyle. I was not aware of that. Part of me feels disappointed because I had always heard he was this great guy. And not like..."sipping the devil's gin from the broken horn" like my gam-gam called it during bible study.

I've done my best to rid the forum of those kinds of people but nobody really seem to appreciate it or recognise it for what it is. We'd be a much better community if we could finish the job but I keep getting banned so it's kinda tuff.

All I can say is this, show me a world class champion or a legend in boxing that don't or didn't
use the speed bag or jump rope. Then you might have a point.
