Why is Canelo working with Eddie Hearn?

Eddie Hearn is better than any of the other major promoters. As a free agent Canelo calls the shots. Also Hearn treats Canelo better than his own fighters.

When the story broke, no one knew anything about what clenbuterol was. No one was aware of the Meat contamination problem in Mexico. All anyone heard was drugs - bad - must be cheating - bad. Eddie Hearn's comments there were one of ignorance. Then as time passes, people begin to educate themselves about what happened. We learn the drug test he failed for were trace amounts of a fat burner found in Meat in Mexico, so that changed the way people viewed what happened. There's drug cheating and there's meat contamination.

Eddie Hearn got caught up in the moment there when he heard Canelo failed a drug test and he assumed the worst. I'm sure looking back at it now, he realizes he just had no idea anything about the clenbuterol problem in Mexico. He now knows the truth and is happy to work with such a good clean fighter who's reputation has been restored once the truth about what happened was revealed.

 

Better question is why Crawford stays with arum when arum talks **** about him instead of doing what he's supposed to do: promote him.

 

They're making money of eachother.

You probably should've been able to work that out on your own.

It's called business.

You work with people you don't necessarily like.

 

Pro boxing is about making money. The fighters, promoters, trainers and judges all want to make money.

If you are looking for any promoter to be on some higher moral plain you will be disappointed.

Canelo and Eddie.

 

Plenty of fans act like they're on some high moral plane when they perpetuate drug rumors and show their ignorance. Fans need to stop judging fighters or promoters so much, and instead of looking at everything glass half empty and looking for reasons to hate on people, take a more optimistic and honorable approach.

Everyone loves to complain about how corrupt everything is, how corrupt promoters are, how corrupt commisions are. I'm not saying there's no corruption, but there's a lot of improvements that have happened to boxing over the years, and compared to other sports, boxing has maintained much of its integrity moreso than other sports.

 

Jeez the irony/hypocrisy is palpable...

 

I try to enjoy the fights. Most of the background stuff is just poop.

Despite what we sometimes read on this forum:

Fighters are not scared of each other. All the drama of who called out who and who ducked who is mostly nonsense.

Nobody is in it for the greater good. It's barely a sport. It is legalized prize fighting.

Everyone is trying to make money while they can. Boxers careers are typically short and can be over in an instant.

I do believe PED use is a real thing at the highest levels. Boxing is not the only sport where this is a thing. But...so many believe only the OTHER guy does it. Not THEIR guy.

Most of these guys would drink their own urine if they thought it would give them an advantage. Oh wait...

It is what it is. I enjoy it for what it is and have learned not to expect anything from it other than some great fights.

 

I personally think Canelo and Eddie Hearn are a match made in heaven. He's really the perfect promoter for Canelo, and a breath of fresh air for Canelo and his team. I think Canelo felt an allegiance to De La Hoya because of their shared Mexican heritage, but when it became clear that De La Hoya was doing more harm than good for Canelo, it was time to move on. I don't think Canelo has any ill will towards De La Hoya, but Oscar did say some pretty crazy stuff in interviews that really made a lot of people upset at Canelo. Like when DLH said he would make GGG wait for a 3rd fight, you just don't say something like that.

Now Canelo is free from the shackles of De La Hoya making him look bad, and now Canelo is with a promoter who has his best interests at heart. And while Eddie said some pretty wrong stuff about Canelo years ago, people can change, and Eddie Hearn definitely changed for the better and realized he was wrong about Canelo. when you get to know someone personally and you really see how good of a guy they are, you realize that you can let rumors get into your head and prejudge people without really knowing who they are. Eddie Hearn and Canelo I think will be a great team for many years to come, and one thing about Eddie Hearn unlike other promoters, is you can tell he has a real genuine love and excitement for the sport and making big events happen.
