Good post George. I'm glad to hear your thoughts on round eleven's "slip". I always thought it was a pretty clear knockdown. Ali took a drubbing in that round and couldn't get his footing, but I recall him taking a lot of good shots before the "slip".

Eder Jofre v Fighting Harada I (5 point must in effect)

    Round 1: 5-4 Harada
    Round 2: 5-4 Harada
    Round 3: 5-4 Jofre
    Round 4: 5-4 Harada
    Round 5: 5-4 Jofre
    Round 6: 5-5 Even
    Round 7: 5-4 Harada
    Round 8: 5-4 Harada
    Round 9: 5-4 Harada
    Round 10: 5-5 Even
    Round 11: 5-4 Harada
    Round 12: 5-4 Harada
    Round 13: 5-4 Harada
    Round 14: 5-4 Jofre
    Round 15: 5-5 Even

Total: 72-66 Harada (actual scores: 71-69 and 72-70 both for Harada and a 72-71 for Jofre for a split win for Harada)

I was very impressed with Harada's attack in this bout. Jofre was clearly the better puncher but Harada made up for his lack of a heavy dig with an excellent workrate. Jofre appeared as if he couldn't pull the trigger when Harada was on the attack. He just didn't counter the way he did earlier in his reign and I think Harada's corner saw this and stepped up the attack. Still, it was a very good fight.

Harada would always beat Jofre imo, though Jofre had seemed to slow his feet slightly since Medel. The style is just one of the few that doesn't mesh well with Jofre at all. An awesome fight as you say.

Curious to see your other scorecards as it appears we score very similarly. Have you done Jofre-Harada II?

Whoa? Quick, that is eerie. I have not scored Jofre-Harada II, but I did score Norton v Young. And, although I did have a number of even rounds - which are swing in a close fight - we only actually disagreed on the 8th round. Over 15 rounds that isn't too shabby.

    Round 1: 10-9 Young
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Young
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Norton
    Round 6: 10-9 Norton
    Round 7: 10-9 Norton
    Round 8: 10-9 Young
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Young
    Round 11: 10-9 Norton
    Round 12: 10-9 Young
    Round 13: 10-10 Even
    Round 14: 10-9 Young
    Round 15: 10-9 Norton

    145-144 Young

I saw this bout years ago and found it again thanks to @roughdiamond who suggested using the english/japanese translator. Great idea, my man. Anyways, here we go.

Ishimatsu Suzuki (Guts Ishimatsu) v Rodolfo Gonzalez II (lightweight title)

    Round 1: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 2: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 3: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 4: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 5: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 6: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 7: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 8: 5-5 Even
    Round 9: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 10: 5-5 Even
    Round 11: 5-4 Gonzalez
    Round 12: Suzuki stops Gonzalez

Total through 11 completed rounds: 55-46 Gonzalez (actual scores: Two even scores of 54-54 and 53-53 and a 55-54 for Gonzalez)

The 3 Japanese officials were real fence-sitters. Their scores equate to 1-1-9, 2-2-7 and 1-0-10 in rounds, which makes me feel better about my score because they evidently would have given something to Suzuki if they could have. I was actually struggling to give him something or anything, but he stayed on his bike throughout the fight while Gonzalez chased and pot-shotted whenever he was able to catch him. Gonzalez generally carried the freight throughout, but it did not make for a great fight unfortunately. A nasty clunk of heads in the 5th was the cause of a nasty cut on Gonzalez which effected him throughout until getting caught in the 12th.

@HolDat , as mentioned, I checked out the Juan Lazcano - Stevie Johnston fight today. And, although I wouldn't call it a pier-six, I really enjoyed it. Here we go. Get your adding machine out for this one.

Stevie Johnston v Juan Lazcano (IBF title eliminator)

    Round 1: 10-8 Lazcano (scores a knockdown)
    Round 2: 10-8 Johnston (scores a knockdown)
    Round 3: 10-9 Johnston
    Round 4: 10-9 Lazcano
    Round 5: 10-9 Johnston
    Round 6: 10-10 Even
    Round 7: 10-9 Lazcano
    Round 8: 10-9 Lazcano
    Round 9: 10-9 Johnston
Round 10: 9-8 Lazcano (JL deducted a point for a low blow then scores a knockdown)
Round 11: Johnston's corner stops the fight after Stevie is dropped again. (Prior to that, Lazcano is deducted another point for a low blow)

Total through 10 completed rounds: 94-93 Lazcano (actual scores are unavailable)

I always liked Stevie Johnston. Not a big puncher but he was an in-the-pocket counter-puncher and I thought these styles gelled nicely for a good compact fight. I think those point deductions only served to anger Lazcano, who decked Stevie shortly after being penalized both times. Also, I think the deductions were a bit harsh. Stevie had a short trunk and had his shorts high. I think they were landing on the beltline, but the ref was closer to the action than I was. Always amazed with the titles floating around that Lazcano never picked up a strap (I'm talking the more recognized WBA, WBC, IBF or WBO not that IBA trinket). He certainly was talented.

Great overall review. I watched it as well yesterday. The first low blow seemed to be legit but too many guys get away with the high trunks like Julian Jackson. I think Lazcano could get a belt today.

Shozo Saijo vs Raul Rojas II

World Featherweight title match. 1968. Rojas the champion, but had lost a MD to Saijo previously in a non title match. This was a top class match up. Saijo and Rojas immediately came out fast, sharp and zoned in, throwing fast and accurate. Battling for centre ring, the two engaged quickly, however, throughout the beginning, Saijo took the lead with his fast left and swift feet. Rojas was always there though, and his skilled pressure made every round in the bout tense. These guys absolutely went for it in the 15th, trying for a KO in the dying seconds. However, it wasn't enough. Judges were called and Saijo was handed a UD, winning the title. He celebrated in triumph.

These guys really were a joy to watch: slipping, feinting, smart and extremely co ordinated. Both men were hurt multiple times in this bout, but Rojas came out worse, which wasn't helped by the increasing centre ownership of Saijo. Rojas was never deterred by it, so Saijo acted smartly and switched back to Boxing his man. I think Rojas didn't work enough off his excellent pressure movement in this bout, and as a result Saijo became the general. Still, there was nothing easy about this one. I highly recommend this if you like tight, tense Boxing with swings in action.

Isaac Logart v Jorge Fernandez II

I really love seeing those old fights out of Madison Square Garden. Recently watched a tough 10 rounder between Isaac Logart and Jorge Fernandez in a rematch. Matchmakers today should take note that to attract a fight fan it doesn't have to have a tag of 'world title'. Good matchmaking will bring in the customers like it did back in the day when Teddy Brenner was matchmaking for the Garden. Give me a good, well-matched 10 rounder any day over this 12 round junk for an alphabet title that's foisted on the public today. Anyways, here we go. NY scoring.

    Round 1: Even
    Round 2: Fernandez
    Round 3: Fernandez
    Round 4: Fernandez
    Round 5: Logart
    Round 6: Fernandez
    Round 7: Fernandez
    Round 8: Even
    Round 9: Fernandez
    Round 10: Fernandez

Total: 7-1-2 Fernandez (actual scores: 7-1-2 and two scores of 8-2 all for Fernandez)

Despite the lopsidedness of the scores, there were some close ones here. And I really enjoyed the fast clean-punching by both combatants. Logart knocked him out in their first fight down in Argentina, but here Fernandez had come into his prime while Logart was slipping. Good fight.

    Hector Lizarraga v Mbulelo Botile

This bout was recently recommended to me. Here we go. 10 rounds.

    Round 1: 10-9 Botile
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-9 Lizarraga
    Round 4: 10-9 Botile
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
    Round 6: 10-9 Lizarraga
    Round 7: 10-9 Lizarraga
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-9 Lizarraga
    Round 10: 10-9 Botile

Total: 97-96 Lizarraga (actual scores: 99-90 and 96-94 both for Botile and a 95-95 Even for a majority win for Botile)

The last two scores were reasonable but the guy who called it 99-90 was at the concession stand, cuz he didn't watch it or he made up his mind ahead of time. This bout was fought almost entirely as phone-booth warfare. Every round very close. The last 4 rounds bogged down a bit with sloppiness. If you wish to see a really good fight with Hector Lizarraga I would advise you to watch his bout with Welcome Ncita. Now that was a fight! As for this one, again, if I was advising anyone, I would say give it a pass.

I checked out a fight today that doesn't look like it has been covered by anyone and I just happen to like Juan 'Baby Bull' Diaz fights. This was his first fight with Paulie Malignaggi, which I heard was controversial. Here we go.

Juan Diaz v Paulie Malignaggi I

    Round 1: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 2: 10-9 Diaz
    Round 3: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 4: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 5: 10-9 Diaz
    Round 6: 10-9 Diaz
    Round 7: 10-9 Diaz
    Round 8: 10-9 Diaz
    Round 9: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 10: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 11: 10-9 Paulie
    Round 12: 10-9 Diaz

Total: 114-114 Draw (actual scores: all 3 judges had it for Diaz by 116-112, 115-113 and a ridiculous 118-110)

This was another one of those fights where I was screaming at the screen. In this case yelling at Diaz to get in there and pound him. It was frustrating because everytime he would give Paulie distance, Paulie would let it rip with fast, stiff combos. If not for the last round where he came somewhat alive, I would have scored for Malignaggi. In fact, Harold Lederman did have it for Paulie by 115-113. This was a very close contest and the one judge who had it 118-110 was clearly not even watching.

Watched what was recommended as an "underrated " fight, Zab Judah vs Micky Ward.
It was ok. Not really much to holler about. A good fight. Especially for Zab being a 20 year old up and comer and Micky being 32 year old vet of the sport.
"A close lopsided fight" was a good way the commentary team put it. Wouldn't call it underrated at all.

    Judah--Ward
1:10-9 (Quicker and more active start)
    2: 10-9 (Same as before)
3: 10-9 (Good but late ending by Ward)
4: 9-10 (Cleaner shots by Ward over the pitter patter by Judah)
5: 10-9 (Just out worked Ward)
6: 10-9 (Fun after the bell, but that seems to be a turn for Ward?)
7: 10-9 (Good end by Ward but late activity, setting Judah up?)
8: 9-10 (Ward's best round, strong body shots, and low blow by Ward lol)
    9: 9-10 (MORE BODY SHOTS)
10: 10-9 (Good rallying round by Judah, Ward loses activty and momentum)
11: 10-9 (Good ending but Judah out worked Ward)
12: 10-9 (Too little too late by Ward, Judah did more and Ward lost momentum)

    TOTAL 117-111 Zab Judah

    Judges scores:
    119-109 (lol what?)
    118-110 x2 (It is ok)

    Jesus Salud v Jesse Benavides

This was a non-title 10 rounder. don't know if Salud was still recognized as champ because there was some issue with him refusing a title fight in Columbia, so he may have been stripped by this time. Anyways, here we go.

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 3: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 4: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 5: 10-9 Salud
    Round 6: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 7: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-9 Jesse
    Round 10: 10-9 Jesse

Total: 99-93 Benavides (actual scores: 95-95, 97-95 and 97-93 both for Benavides for a majority win)

I was kinder to Benavides than the judges. I was very impressed with his boxing. Salud had one bright spot in the 5th when he really banged the body well, but then let up in the ensuing rounds. Benavides was tagged good several times in this bout and he stood up well, which is amazing with the spectre of his bout with Pedro Decima in the old memory bank with him folding like a deck of cards. I won't say this is a must see, but it was a good fight. I enjoyed it anyway.
