Beating better fighters, does not give you a better resume. Holyfield beat great fighters, but he also lost to some less than great ones. He allowed other men tom overshadow him. He was great no doubt, but he was not in Louis's class!
Yeah H2H and legacy are different. Marciano had a greater legacy than Vitali Klitschko. But would he beat Vitali Klitschko? I HIGHLY doubt it. Lol
Of course Tyson was in his prime. You can argue shape and the rest of it but 37 fights many of which were easy, never knocked down or punished much at all, just 5 years as a pro and just 23 years old? He went on to pump Ruddock, who many seem to really rate with the big power, size and shiny muscles and all x 2 in the next 6 months.
Holyfield lost his title to to a LHW. I consider that more damaging, than almost losing your title to a LHW!
I think that I have already answered this, but I will do it again. None of the people that Louis beat were greater than Holyfield (Rocky Marciano was greater). A few of them were better than the people who took him to the bring of disaster!
He also avenged it brutally- Moorer was a bigger men then Max Schmeling should we call Max a LHW? He spent more time at HW was huge at LHW and did more at HW he is a HW as far as I’m concerned.
I won’t argue the point- he was in his physical prime but was removed from what we’ve seen and his bio illustrates the changes in life style around this time- I also don’t rate Ruddock highly personally and I’m aware Tyson was on a short path of resumption after losing the title for the Ruddock fight. But that’s how I saw it anyways.
It is like this. Louis had the same stumbles that all ATGs have, but he always turned them into wins. He had his Douglas moments, but he ended up beating his Douglas's, so nobody remembers them today, outside of this board!
You are delusional- beating better men makes for a better resume... Evander did that A LOT better then Louis- he only lost to Bowe at his best and Moorer when he allegedly had a heart condition apart from that what else can we knock against him? All of his worst losses came at the end of the road for Holy- even then he was still one of the best active fighters at the time. What do you even mean by overshadow this isn’t a legacy discussion?
If he had Douglas moments they matter because this is a H2H discussion! if Conn, Two ton Toney and Buddy Bear all gave him difficulty that matters! ffs how does this not click? Lesser fighters then Bowe and Holy consistently gave him trouble that is telling us something Jesus.
So Douglas was greater than Holmes then? No, I didn't think so! Bowe is a man with one good win, more or less like Douglas. Holyfield is a man with many great wins, who was hot and cold. Louis was ice cold consistency!
Here is the problem. People attack Louis base upon fights that he won. Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Wlad, Joshua, all get attacked base upon fights that they lost. There is a crucial difference there!
Look at Douglas and Bowes resume and tell me they are similar- Holy consistently beat better men then Louis did, he lost to better men then Louis did and in his prime one bout was when he had a heart condition a loss he would avenge brutally- Yes Louis was consistent and this is important as he consistently struggled with lesser fighters then Bowe and Holyfield.
No it’s not ffs Jan- He constantly had issues with less then Bowe and Holy by a league his company is why he won those Douglas moment fights they were not ATGs he was in the ring with it wasn’t just one moment, he had many against A LOT less then Holy and Bowe.
