Michael Moorer claimed David Tua hit harder than George Foreman. Who punched harder in your opinion?

Foreman in the 90s was not the puncher he was in the 70s or even the 80s Moorers chin was also not the same when he fought Tua.

So just some food for thought.

 

There is zero evidence that Moorer's chin was worse during his comeback. Jirov couldn't even stun him.

 

I'd lean Foreman because of his greater mass but if they measured it and said Tua I wouldn't be surprised. Both big hitters, and probably fairly close in power.

 

You're talking about 7 pounds.

For what it's worth, Moorer doesn't actually say that Tua hit harder than Foreman in this interview.

David Tua: There was a lot of big punchers. Francois Botha hit hard. Foreman hit hard – at that time he caught me with a good punch. Holyfield hit hard. Anyone, if they get hit the right way, will go. Tua knew how to deliver the power, being more flatfooted than being on his toes and being that he kept a fist. Most boxers keep their hands open, and he knew the way he came in – short, stocky – and he had a good chin, but he could do the hitting as well.

@MarkusFlorez99 Maybe some people just vote without knowing its about 90s Foreman, which would make everything a little bit more obvious.

This place has a "hard punching" issue anyway. The "correct", or lets say more meaningful wording would be: "Who was the more effective puncher in your opinion?"

If boxing was so much about hard punching, James Smith or Eric Esch would be top 5 ATGs.

It’s possible Tua did hit harder. Maybe Tua’s body punches hurt more. Fighters will tell you there is different type of power in how a punch is delivered. Many of Foreman’s opponents describe his power as thudding while others have said Tyson’s was more of a fast snapping power.

 

Moorer wasn't the same when he fought Tua by the time he had lost a lot of his speed.

 

Tua looked to me to be the crisper puncher than Old George, so it sounds reasonable that Moorer would pick him.
