Lomachenko by the virtue of being about three stone heavier.

Tell Loma to shed a few more pounds and meet at 122 and this becomes a decapitation.

I didn't know Loma cut that much weight to make 126!

Wilfredo Bazooka Gomez did not fare well at 126 lbs in his first shot at the title in 1981 against WBC Featherweight Champion Salvador Sanchez. Later he got destroyed against Azumah Nelson and Alfredo Layne. Vasyl Lomachenko would do the same to Gomez. Bazooka was at his best at 122 lbs, as evidenced against Carlos Zarate in 1978. I think at 126 lbs, Loma would outbox Wilfredo early, then score a stoppage in round 9. Loma would do to Gomez what Sanchez did to him.

Not so fast my fiend. Loma only had a handful of fights at the weight and lost to basically a glorified club fighter in one of them.

There’s no version of Loma who is schooled in the pro game at 126, much less one who has proven himself over 15 rounds.

Make him weigh in same day, 15 rounds and let’s have fun by making it in the summer heat in Puerto Rico and see what happens.

You know my friend, you have very good points. It is just that Gomez did not recover well after the beating that Salvador Sanchez gave him, he looked terrible against Rocky Lockridge in August 1985.

I think we have to be careful not to compare Gomez at 126 to Gomez at 122 — he was, of course, better at 122 (best ever), but that isn’t the standard here.

He handled Juan Laporte at feather and beat Lockridge even if it wasn’t aesthetically pleasing.

But is he better than, say, Salido? I think without question.

Let’s put greenhorn Loma in with Azumah and Lockridge and Layne — and make him weigh in same day — and see how that goes.

Doubtful, he really was not built for FW. No shame in that some guys were made to fight at just one division.
