    Round 1 Hughes 10-9
    Round 2 Hughes 10-9
    Round 3 Hughes 10-9
    Round 4 Hughes 10-9
    Round 5 Hughes 10-9
    Round 6 Hughes 10-9
    Round 7 Hughes 10-9

Maxi picks up where he left off, going to the body, Hyland complains about a headclash. Hyland lands several hooks to the body, Maxi shelling up, most not landing clean. Maxi goes on attack, Hyland soaking up a ton of punishment to the body, he's wilting. He almost sits on the ropes. Maxi pounding his body, pace slows. Hyland lands a decent body shot, Maxi takes it well. Maxi closes strong.

    Round 2: 10-9 Hughes
    Round 3: 10-9 Hughes
    Round 4: 10-9 Hughes
    Round 5: 10-9 Hughes
    Round 6: 10-9 Hughes
    Round 7: 10-9 Hughes
Round 8: Hughes wins by KO

Finally it's over. Strange Knockout but Hyland didn't want to be in the ring anymore.

It was Hylands fault. Never turn your back in a fight, the ref never stopped the fight and actually said "BOX ON".

    Round 1 Hughes 10-9
    Round 2 Hughes 10-9
    Round 3 Hughes 10-9
    Round 4 Hughes 10-9
    Round 5 Hughes 10-9
    Round 6 Hughes 10-9
    Round 7 Hughes 10-9
Round 8 Hughes wins by KO

Maxi lands a sharp beauty of a right hook early, Hyland takes it well. They clash heads again, Hyland seems stunned. Maxi jumps on him, Maxi unloads, Paul is hurt by a body shot, he bends down, almost goes down, turns his back and walks away, ref says box on... the ref doesn't stop it, Maxi rushes in and lands a right hook on him when his back is turned, he goes down, he gets back up, but he's in no shape to continue. Weird ending, but legit KO.

That ref was pitiful the entire fight, but at the end..... wtf?

He orders Hughes jnto the corner, presumably for a count, then restarts the action without giving one of the fighters notice? Hughes then runs up behind Hyland and coldcocks him?

Also, he kept grabbing the fighters from behind to stop the action. That’s dangerous. For both the fighters, and him.

On top of that, he missed a clear KD earlier.

    Awful.

No, aside from winning the belt, the GREATEST win of his career was his debatable gift against Jono Carroll. Hyland is ****. Jono would absolutely massacre him. The only thing good about this was picking up a strap.

The ref ordered Hughes into a neutral corner, as if a count was coming.

Don't think it was a gift tbh. But it was close, 100%.

I re-watched the fight today and here's my RBR:

Jono Carroll vs. Maxi Hughes | August 12, 2020 | Production Park Studios, South Kirkby

    R1: 10-9 Carroll close
Even round, Carroll way more active and busier but not landing much clean, Hughes not landing anything of notice

    R2: 10-9 Hughes close
Another close round, Hughes worked the jab very well and attacked the body, Carroll not as busy as in R1 and still missing most of his punches which are getting blocked by Hughes

    R3: 10-9 Hughes
Very, very good round from Hughes, he countered Carroll numerous times and hurt him with a nice body shot for a second, his footwork and defense is on point

    R4: 10-9 Carroll razor close
Hughes did well again with counters and jabs but Carroll raised his output once again and finished the round really well, stole it on my card but it could be a Hughes round as well

    R5: 10-9 Carroll
Carroll outworking Hughes from start to finish, this was probably the clearest round in the fight and Carroll took it, Hughes didn't throw a lot and didn't counter at all, took one off here

    R6: 10-9 Carroll
Hughes landing the best shot of the round (maybe of the fight?) but he's getting outworked easily and Carroll landing a huge shot late too

    R7: 10-9 Hughes
Massive uppercut by Hughes stunned Carroll who is moving away from the action, some nice body shots, Carroll again missing a lot this round, Hughes just a lot cleaner with his punches

    R8: 10-9 Carroll close
Hughes starting well but getting outworked in the second and third minute of the round, still a close round

    R9: 10-9 Hughes close
Hughes countering well again, making Carroll miss and pay but Carroll was still throwing a lot of punches and Hughes picked his shots, the volume is definitely not on Hughes side

    R10: 10-9 Hughes
Hughes hurts Carroll with a massive overhand left, he follows up with another big shot, Hughes super aggressive this round, landing a couple of big shots

    95-95 even

R4 was a total swing round, it could be a 10-10 or a 10-9 Hughes so considering i scored the round for Carroll the draw is the best result Carroll should get here 96-94 or 96-95 for Hughes is fine as well

Hyland went away from the action for no reason at all. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK. It's the first thing you learn in a boxing gym.
