Did Rocky Marciano and Willie Pep ever have any type of relationship?

Pep was older by 1 year, both Italian, and both dominated around the same time. They´re both two of my favorite boxers and I want to know if they had some time of friendship or relationship of some sort.

Yes they were both very friendly. If I’m remembering correctly Marciano helped Pep get some steady jobs after retirement.

Yes. The two of them were friends, and sometimes went out for a few drinks or a meal together.

Yes. In Rocky's biography it is mentioned that they ran into each other outside the ring frequently and were very cordial and friendly. He enjoyed Pep's company and always had something positive to say about his paesano.

As noted it seems that they were, but Rocky did commentary on the film of one of his losses to Saddler and he calls it exactly as he sees it, pointing out (the obvious) that Pep is being beaten up and what he’s doing is not working, etc., and not cutting him any slack.

Wouldn't surprise me. Rocky was a proud scrooge.

I forget who he was hanging out with, might have been an actor or something, but the individual said he and Rocky were at the airport. Rocky had a quarter with a string tied around it. He witnessed Rocky using a pay phone, putting the quarter inside, then using the string to pull it out. When the guy wanted to make a call of his own Rocky let him borrow the quarter but the guy forgot to pull the string and the machine ate the quarter and Rocky was furious and went on a rant about all the "Greedy *******s" in the phone industry.

    All over a quarter.

Yeah, he hated banks with a passion. It's said that he'd make a guest appearance for less money if it was cash.
It's also been said that he stuffed money in all sorts of weird places, including drain pipes and light fittings..
I wonder how much of that is true or a bit of embellishment though.
Either way, it's a great story.

Funny as **** isn’t it really. I remember a story when I was a kid( might be common knowledge I don’t know) that he would drive out with a suitcase full of money, somewhere desolate and bury his money in tin cans. Only he would know the whereabouts, serious money, like maybe the majority of his wealth buried, then the plane crash :(
    . He trusted know one

Well after doing some googling, I think, in my unprofessional opinion, he may have had OCD with some hoarding disorders related to money (money hording disorder):

"Hoarding is a disorder that may be present on its own or as a symptom of another disorder. Those most often associated with hoarding are obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and depression."

There are some tell-tale signs of a hoarder: Inability to give away money to anyone else; anxiety while spending money; difficulty in organising and keeping track of money saved; indecision about what to do when encountered with money decisions; deep suspicion of others when it comes to money matters; and obsessive fears about losing the savings.

MANY of these symptoms apply to Rocky. As anyone who knew him for more than 1 hour will tell you, he was very stingy and rarely spent money (even on his wife). He was very suspicious of other people when it came to money and frequently clashed heads with his manager Al Weil over money disputes and did not trust him. He was deeply terrified to the point of irrational paranoia when it came to the idea of losing money. And one thing he did to pump himself up for a fight was to convince himself his opponents were conspiring against him to make him go broke and have him working in the factories like his father. It obviously troubled him deeply to see his father do back breaking work for low pay.

It's clear he had some form of OCD. In the weeks leading up to a match he would refuse to shake hands and was a neat freak. Ironically, his obsessed perfectionist mind set probably contributed to his great conditioning as he did intense work outs to ensure he was in tip top shape. HE wouldn't even talk to friends or family over the phone when the fight was days away so he could be 100% focused.

It was the same thing with money, he counted every bill by hand no matter how large the amount. One day his brother Peter was counting a large sum of money while he took a nap. Peter put $20 in his pocket while Rocky was unaware. Yet a few days later Rocky confronted him about it furious telling him if he really needed the money he should ask. I believe the amount of cash they counted was well over 100,000.

I would love to hear a professional's opinion on this. Rocky is a fascinating case of OCD and hoarding.
