Question for you IB..... do you think him a better spec at this stage than Thurman? (When he was on the up as One Time, and not Run Time).

    i do.

I'm not saying all 4 of those fighters are good (Horn sucks) but what they have over Ortiz is experiences and that alone can get you to the later rounds.

Ortiz will not be the 1st power puncher that Spence/Crawford have faced, they'll negate his power and with his lack of experiences, they'll stop him.

Please don't take that statement as a knock against Ortiz, I love him as a fighter and if he's not #2 at welterweight as far as prospects go, then he's 1B....but they're levels here.

Well, let's see ...Thurman five years in (almost exactly five years to a day from his debut - and we're being generous to Keith extending it that far to include Quintana, because technically Vergil is still only 4¾ years from his own pro debut) had taken out a fellow unbeaten prospect named Brandon Hoskins (who never won again, finishing with a 16-6 record) on the Mayweather vs. Cotto undercard and then faced his biggest step up in class in a rather shopworn Carlos "El Indio" Quintana (who never fought again). I mean, yeah, Ortíz's résumé at <5 years annihilates Thurman's at =5.

As for does he look as good? Yes. Much better in fact...and I've always liked (and still do like) One-Time.

Thanks...I just want to add of those 4 147 lbers you listed, i think Oritz stop Kavaliauskas, Benavídez, and Horn and is 60/40 with Porter with the favorite being Ortiz due to his power *if Porter brawls*.

If Porter boxes, i'll favor Porter but a 60/40 pick.

Lesser weight maintaining and after this lesser weight cut and water cut. That's it.

As Lopez told, Loma is better for 126 and 130 division and appeared he was correct.
He is smaller than Ortiz or Hooker.
Maybe Garcia might fight vs Ortiz, he looks pretty huge for 135 lbs division.

A better comparison would be Canelo, actually, per my post in last night's RBR:

On top of which, that victory over Mosley counted for quite a bit less than Mayweather's and Pacquiao's did - let alone Cotto's, or Forrest's and Wright's years earlier when he was prime. Shane was looking progressively more and more like ass with each passing fight, and honestly was coming off three horrible performances in a row (shut out by Pac, might have gotten a gift in the Mora draw, and had that one moment in one round with PBF, otherwise getting schooled).

I think Lopez is very talented: Vicious one punch KO power in either hand, very fast, skillful, athletic and explosive but like a lot of these fighters who are absolutely huge for the weight the true test of the worth is when they move up and start facing opponents their own size and bigger. Loma is a blown up 126 who was giving up huge amounts of weight and physical advantages up at 135 everytime he fought up there.

David Benavidez Sr. said one of his fighters stopped Teo twice in sparring. Different ballgame when you're fighting opponents your own size

Even his son David Benavidez Jr. who I'm a big fan of is absolutely massive for SMW

Vergil is pretty tall for a 147 pounder but I don't think he's huge for the weight

Then he beats up old men. Phooey. Based on his attitude, style and what he's done thus far, Ortiz should fight Porter or Thurman or Danny Garcia next. Better would be a couple of them. If he gets by them, Spence and/or Crawford. Maybe we could have a real champion for once.

That's probably too optimistic though. I wouldn't mind Vergil fighting that Che that fought on his undercard; Marcelino Lopez. That would be a brawl and a half.

He’ll be ready in two years to absolutely destroy them. 3-4 makes it even worse for them especially Crawford as he would be 37-38. I think he beats Garcia right now. Porter would be a tough fight because of how wild he is but still beatable due to Ortiz height advantage. Spence will probably be the toughest matchup overall due to his experience against veteran fighters. But I’m not an expert so don’t take my word for it.

He did seem to acknowledge that he was able to handle the power and just said, “ok, I can handle this”, and that’s what allowed him to stay comfortable in the exchanges. He did get hit more than I would have liked to see though.
