I think Salvador Sanchez not only was the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. I think he is in the list of guys to be considered pound for pound the greatest fighter ever along with the usual suspects. All 15 round when comparing. His stamina at 15 was as great and better than any in history. He overcame all styles. He had an impenetrable chin. His record in championship fights against terrific opponents is outstanding. I would argue with no one who put him with Robinson, (Benny) Leonard, Pep, Greb & Louis as inch for inch and pound for pound thee # 1 fighter ever.

I don't think he has an argument for the best of his era, or the best Mexican ever. Not only did he die before he had the chance, even if he hadn't, he still wouldn't have been able to do it.

Having him pound for pound number one is mental.

James Dean syndrome. Die young and you get elevated on your potential.

His accomplishments were outstanding but we don’t know what happens next if he had kept going. He had a tough time with Azumah Nelson in his final fight — we know what Nelson become but he was a 15-fight novice (late sub? I don’t recall for sure) — and had close calls with Patrick Ford and Pat Cowdell before that. So it might have caught up with him.

I’d rank him third at feather at best behind Saddler and Pep (yes, in that order).

He was great no doubt, but he is not even the greatest Mexican Featherweight, let alone greatest Mexican fighter. But he is clearly a top 10 among his countrymen IMO

I don’t see anyway he is top 25 ATG let alone even in the conversation for GOAT...not sure I have even heard his most ardent fans declare that one lol

C'mon, he's easily the greatest Mexican Featherweight.

I disagree entirely with this. And. How come you guys always have to throw a putdown in the answer? How hard is it to just answer nicely. This really is kind of a negative forum.

it’s all good bro, they are just opinions. Mine is definitely Saldivar as the greater, but it is close and debatable for sure. No disrespect to Sanchez who is one of my favorite non Philly fighters

James Dean was actually overrated though..... Plus, it's easy to underrate Sal because he died so early.

Sanchez was a freakily great fighter, unbelievably mature with a coolness and poise that most, much older fighters dont display. Imo he would have probably been a top 10 ATG had he lived longer. That's the problem...he didn't live long.
