Do we know when that's from? The upload date is August 2013 but it could have been anytime before that (by which point the 42 year old had been popped for steroids - or at least steroid-masking diuretics, enough to see his victory over Denis Lebedev thrown out). I guess it stands to reason that while serving out his ban the veteran sought to earn a buck giving a then up-and-comer (The Krusher would've been just heading into the Cleverly fight here) some good work in the gym.
Also ****ed up Kessler's eye, so you could argue he cut the careers of two excellent boxer-puncher technicians (perhaps Europe's best two since Michalzewski) short - or at least contributed heavily (and controversially) to both of their declines.
Yep, he was a career ender of the highest order, although Kessler was way more overrated than Kovalev, but still went on to have some respectable success even after his demise at the hands of Ward. Kovalev on the other hand just spiralled further and further down the drain
Kovalev wasn't ruined by Ward, he simply got older and lost form like all athletes. Don't forget Ward retired younger than Kovalev (twice) because he was worried about the same thing. Kovalev was already middle-age when he fought Ward and still beat him. Late 20s-30 Kovalev wouldn't have just KD'd Ward with a half flush shot, he would have eventually landed clean and KO'd him. It's funny how people pretend Kovalev was a hype job while citing Ward beating him. Most thought Kovalev was robbed and even if he wasn't, the fight was at best so close and a fight of two halves that it showed Kovalev was around the same level. In other words, Ward must be a hype job too.
Had a 20€ bet on Gvodzyk KO win, which occurred just before combined with Kovalev points win. I would have won more than 600€ , I still remember my 19 yo teenager screaming all over my house at 6 a.m, I almost stopped watching boxing for a year and that was the last bet I did since then. Those 600€ for a teenager student were too much I felt almost as robbed as Kovalev, can't forget that lol.
