Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Wilfred Benitez, at 154 lbs, 15 rounds, both prime. Imagine Benitez of the 1981 title winning bout against Maurice Hope against Canelo? Who wins and why?

Benitez schools Canelo as bad, if not worse than Mayweather did.

Prime Benitez was a better welterweight or super welterweight than any Mayweather IMO, let alone the version in his mid-30s who fought Canelo.

Benitez wins this by a very wide margin.

I agree and I think 154 was his best weight.

Canelo by close decision (assuming it’s the Canelo who fought Liam Smith) and Benitez couldn’t hold Mayweather’s jock strap.

Benitez by decision. He'd look good here I reckon.

You must really hate Canelo, Canelo is p4p the best in world atm, nobody beats him by shutout with the exception of Mayweather, just look at Canelo's skills, what do you really believe Benitez would do to completely outclass him??

You can't beat Canelo any easier than Mayweather did

It's over 7 years since Canelo and Mayweather fought. That's a wee bit of time and things have changed a bit and Canelo's skills have improved that's for certain.

The fight was also not a shutout under the massive majority of cards.

Benitez was only competent for a short time and was inconsistent.

Mayweather was the man form the late 90s to mid 20 teens. So basically no chance in hell of that happening.

Canelo was close to current form by the time he was leaving 154.
