Cortez always was Mayweathers Fairy Godmother protecting little Floyd. When he retired Bayless took over the job

No he ran, grabbed , held repeat for 12 rounds KNOWING all he had to do was be standing at the final bell & he couldnt lose

there's nowhere to run in the squared circle.
grabbing and holding don't score points.

EXACTAMUNDO!!! But in Floyd's case they did. I still maintain Floyd couldnt knock a fly off a cow pattie over 130 . Just look at Ortiz when Floyd cowardly coldcocked him catching him totally unprotected & vulnerable with his hardest combination. Victor got back up & ended up laughing

Completely agree. They replay showed there should never been a point deduction.

Joe Cortez was a notoriously dodgy referee.

The deck was stacked against Hatton that night:
    - the size of the gloves was chosen by Mayweather
    - the home advantage for Mayweather
    - Mayweather's preferred weight of 147
    - the dishonest home referee.

one day you're going to have to put your big boy pants on and realise that you're dissing one of the greatest boxers who ever lived.
people don't like floyd, i get that.
but it shouldn't be a prerequisite for judging his achievements in the ring.

Ricky got too emotionally involved with his opposition. A fight with your heart on your sleeve kinda fighter.. he had become a media darling by this point too & was almost becoming a caricature of himself whereas Mayweather was all business. Cool as ice. Floyd was just too good. Ricky couldn't settle at the weight either, never looked as good as he did at 140, his optimum fighting weight , whereas FM could jump weight seamlessly. Love Ricky anyway , great career, great guy , a British boxing icon. Btw yes the reffing in this fight was undoubtedly dodgy, especially considering Ricky Hattons style of fighting… bulling his way inside… but saying that I don't think Hatton at any weight or with any referee would beat Mayweather. Too good a boxer.

But yeah I agree, he was defo stunned, whether he was hurt is up for debate but it would explain the clinching and dangling himself out of the ropes for a few secs for a breather.

True. Also, like I had stated earlier, around 59:50, they show another angle of Hatton cracking Floyd.

I think Floyd was slightly hurt. Another reason I think this: Look how Floyd isn't his usual brash self when Ricky mocks Floyd after the point deduction. Floyd knew he'd be stung and took the easy way out. He couldn't bring himself to really respond in full force. That's what I suspect anyway.

That big left hook in round 1 was a great punch from Hatton, had Floyd stumbling, he almost went down there.

Without that BS deduction, which was brought about by cowardice from Floyd, Hatton could have very well won that round. The first 3 rounds were almost even, and round 3 some (including one judge) gave to Hatton. Round 5 was Hatton's. Round 7 was even or Hatton IMO.

It would arguably be generous scoring to Hatton, but if the 6th round played out where Hatton hypothetically won, you could very plausibly have Hatton ahead or even thru 7 rounds. That's an achievement in itself. Hatton gave a decent account of himself, but lost credibility as an A+ level fighter. He was seen as a B+ level fighter after this fight because he got TKOd and lost most rounds on the cards. So winning more rounds could have altered that perception.

TBH I think that was a partial connect. I think Floyd was off-balance. But he still got hit.
