He's a superstar anyway. Yes, overrated as a fighter but a superstar sportsman nonetheless.
I have NEVER walked into a sportswear store and seen massive pictures of Dillian Whyte selling Nikes or Adidas. And never expected to.
I have NEVER heard women striking up a conversation or having anything to say about Dillian Whyte.

I never said Whyte should be on 50 grand, or even 100 grand.

And what you're describing is precisely how boxing always was. World champions and exceptional box office favourites could become rich, and the guys a level below that would make a more modest living.
And boxing thrived like that, yes.

Whyte turned down 6 or 7 MILLION £ to face Joshua in 2019, and actually that does suggest he'd being over paid for second-rate fights on PPV.

Your saying thats how boxing always was. The problem is no one wants to invest the same way anymore. You cant force them to invest. That means boxing as you knew it which was struggling btw is no longer the same. It would just struggle more from them days.

The figure 50 or 100 grand is the figure they,d be on without ppv. You seem to suggest he should be on more without telling us who,s picking up the tab...cause the last time they looked no one wanted to pick up the tab.

What a lot of guys are saying makes sense...but in reality it wont work anymore.

Its a bit like saying eddie your stupid for making a lot of money and getting the sport going...you should listen to me...because i,ll make no money and boxing will struggle badly...but it sounds right in my head...its how it should be.

    He's coming off a loss.
If you're going to talk about it as if it's a ladder that they move up, you have to accept they can move down. His main rewards for the Joshua loss, Parker, Chisora 2, Rivas and Povetkin were presumably the PPV money he made for them anyway !
so don't act like he was suffering paying his dues and he's yet to be rewarded.

If the Whyte-Povetkin "eliminator" didn't have a ridiculous one-way rematch clause attached, we wouldn't even be seeing Whyte get this chance anyway.
He'd be trying to beg a comeback fight somewhere.

Pulev and Hughie fought an IBF eliminator on Channel 5 in late 2018.
Tyson Fury was undefeated mandatory challenger and fought decent Euro-level Christian Hammer on regular SKY in 2015.
Since when did any half-decent heavyweight fight have to be pay-per-view ?

What about joshua and warrington then? Will warrington get 20 grand to fight the mexican in the rematch and how come joshua got 50 million for ruiz 2 after a loss. Same with haye v bellew. Etc.

Is it just whyte you dont like?

The rematch clause different argument. Again the ppv money hes not stole it off people. Hes earned that money by taking on guys in or around the top ten. Which is pretty much elite sportsmen territory. I m not saying that dillan and only dillan deserves that money....what i m saying is if your in the top ten and you,ve generated enough interest boxing has a problem at that level where you end up coming away with about 50 grand to fight top ten guys....otherwise you cant really have decent fights cause no one in britain wants to fund them.

The only other real alternative is the fans pay for it. Not just to dillan but to a lot of different people making money off it. Its pretty much like the economy surely...if no one puts anything in...you,ll be stuck in a depression. You need funding to get it going. No one wants to fund it. The fans will then need to or boxing stays in that depression.

Its pretty much a simple choice of paying and watching and getting almost unlimited coverage and everyone gets paid or not paying and not seeing your sport covered enough or decent fights getting made consistantly.

Your taking one off fights. Even just the fact you need to go back 3 years to find a good fight on channel 5 even then pulev v fury was lauded on here as a battle of the feather fists.

And tyson v hammer you,ve had to go back 6 years which actually backs up my exact point.

    6 years.

Are boxing fans really satisfied waiting 6 years for the next one.

I know you can probably get one a year in....but come on no boxing fan wants to wait a year for the next decent fight surely.

Please let’s not include Hughie in the category of half-decent fights!

It's not what I think of when I think ppv not by a long stretch.

But still bought it!! And I'm enjoying it. Its not the best show I've ever watched (last fight was good), but it's like sex, any sex is better than no sex

But you haven't said how it has changed.
You must be the only one who's seeing all the great weekly fights since those so-called old days.
