OK sure, but admit you should have included at least a photo of the biggest Ape Ever.
It is amazing how they found, & must have shaved down, but a single specimen that was otherwise extinct from the middle Pleistocene.

I think Joe Louis may actually be one of the few fighters who score a stoppage over Tua, though a decision is more likely. Tua’s style would give him some trouble and he might even deck joe the way that Galento did.

This is it Goo. Tua was the Shavers of his day perhaps. He's good, dangerous and hugely powerful but lacks some intangibles.

This reminds me a lot of something Joe Frazier told Tua when he came to Nashville. He said "You've got three strikes against you, David. You're Samoan. You're a southpaw. You're black. And you're good."

meh I guess. But Shavers suffered some less than stellar losses to fighters that I can't see beating Tua as well.

What i will give Tua is that he had a lot better chin than Shavers (to put it mildly) and didn't gas like old Earnie. He'd beat Earnie.

I don't think Shavers chin was really a problem tbh. It was his stamina. And consistency. Some days he's good enough to take Muhammad Ali to the brink (though a faded one), other days he's getting ko'd by Quarry in a round and losing to the 20-24 Bob Stallings (though in his defense, he hadn't fought in a year and wasn't in the best place mentally).

Stamina was a big problem, absolutely, but when you are stopped in the 1st by Jerry Quarry and pretty early by Ron Stander i think there's a bit of a question mark. I wouldn't call him glass by any stretch but i think he'd be found out against high level bombers.

Man could he punch tho. Stander said it was like getting hit with a night stick.

I would be very happy, for David Tua to clean Joe Louis's spit bucket.

That is your style match up!

Sorry John I thought I responded. But all of Shavers' losses were AFTER he ran out of gas with the exception of Quarry as you mentioned. In that case he was hit with about 30 or so consecutive power punches before he hit the floor. Against Lyle however, he went toe to toe with him and had the upper hand, and wasn't anywhere close to going down until he ran out of gas.

All good mate. I absolutely know where you are even if i am slightly more unsold on his chin. A lot of guys kept well clear of him early while he was fresh for sane reasons lol

TBH Tua doesnt deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Louis. I met Tua and I like him but no not even remotely in Joe's class
