Why do these youngsters all believe Cassius Clay was some kind of elusive, defensive wizard ?

Y’know, I always wondered what his parents called him after he changed his name especially his papa who was also called Cassius Clay? Was Ali ashamed of him was carrying on using a slave name?

Who were his parents slaves to? On which plantation did they work?

Ali only called Frazier that after he insisted on calling him Clay. Frazier criticized Ali's decision to refuse to fight in Vietnam claiming he should have been willing to fight and die for the same country that enslaved his ancestors and refused to let him sit in a restaurant after winning a gold medal for that country. From Ali's perspective Frazier was picking the "white man's" side when there were major movements going on to uplift black people. From Frazier's perspective Ali was not appreciating the opportunities he had been given and was biting the hand that fed him. Frazier came from a dirt poor family and was much worse off than Ali and grinded his way out of poverty to become champion, so he thought it was strange for Ali to speak of oppression. But for Ali he was confused because he was trying to speak on behalf of poor and oppressed black people like Frazier when he was younger and expected Frazier to be on his side.

It was a clash of ideals. This idea that Ali just picked on him for no reason out of the blue is completely false.

    Are you sure.
"If it was ability, Ray Robinson would’ve been Heavyweight champ" ring a bell?

I do not refer to Robinson by his birth name of Walker Smith Jr, either, reason being he chose to change it to Ray Robinson, albeit aided by borrowing a certain Ray Robinsons AAU card.

so people understand who I’m on about, if I say “Walker” it would just confuse people, if I said Smith they’d be like “wtf is this weirdo on about”...Now Clay is only one man, no confusion, no others. Lol @ you checking my post history

Ali tried to turn the black people against Frazier even though Frazier had a lot more in common with them growing up than Ali ever did. This is why Frazier was bitter towards Ali right up to the end of his life,

I wonder. Bit insulting to dad an mom really, change your name for religious reasons fair enough but the crap he spouted about it being a slave name I’m sure would’ve irked them

Calling someone an uncle Tom doesn't make you racist.

Are You actually from Somalia? You might want to actually open a history book before you make bold statements about people in another country.

Of course it’s racial, it’s making out a black man is subservient to a white man. Totally race related, a black man using that term is a racist
