Two tough Challengers but never a champion. One put down Frazier, the other Larry Holmes. So who takes it?? 15 rounds.
Good fight, but Earnie never stood up too well against really tough guys. Bonavena didn't have that one punch kind of power, but I think he would wear Shavers down and stop him in say, 9 rounds. Bonavena was very tough, but Shavers might knock him down once or twice. Good, tough fight. I did this one for you @Richard M Murrieta.
An out of shape Shaver could lose to almost anybody in any era... I think Oscar could win. Earnie would be non-plussed by a guy making animal sounds at him and trying to pull off his head. Oscar would beat the crap out of him while crowing like a rooster, and barking like a dog.
I could see Oscar Ringo Bonavena swarming over Earnie Shavers in the early going in such a fight to avoid the onslaught of his pugilistic power that has kayoed many. Ringo would drag Earnie into the later rounds after his stamina has been depleted by dropping Shavers with a similar right hand used to drop Joe Frazier in 1966 and Karl Mildenberger in 1967 Oscar stops a worn out Shavers by KO 9.
I belive that. Shavers could actually put him down Will. And that in its self would be an achievement, seeing as Frazier couldn't.
Yeah. It is pretty plausible I think. Shavers floored nearly everyone he fought actually. And we know Bonavena wasn't impossible to floor. Folley, Ellis, and Ali all did it. While certainly far more accurate punchers, they weren't close to Shavers' power.
Spot on. Oscar was a tough, rough and ready guy, I can see him throwing himself And leaving him self kind of wide open, to Shavers advantage.
As with almost all of Shavers hypothetical matchups,,,Oscar could wear down Ernie and stop him.,,,,,or get executed .
Shavers didn't floor the great Ron Stander...who was a lower case Bonavena, to be charitable. Frazier couldn't budge Ringo at all,...and I think he hit considerably harder than Ali, Folley and Ellis.
Shavers was green then. From Jimmy Young in 1973 he floored nearly everyone he fought. Look at the guys who beat him: Lyle, Holmes, Tillis.
Oscar by 11th round TKO, and he's not going to get floored in the process. A little too much experience for Ernie.
