Canelo must have been the happiest man on earth when DB lost his belt on the scale. Canelo has a good shot to win, but he wouldn't be scheduling 3 more fights for the 12 months after.
Because he's a nobody name-wise but presents a HIGH risk of getting knocked out. Benavidez improved a lot since the Gavril fights. He's young, motivated, big, strong, powerful and has a good work rate. But the most impressive thing with him is his precision/accuracy. He's incredibly accurate with his shots. He landed more than 50% of his power punches against both Ellis and Angulo and both fights went 10/11 rounds. And even against a slick guy like Dirrell who loves to run he landed like 35%. This is pretty sick. This guy is breaking you down. He's not a one punch KO artist and he's hittable and his footwork is a bit flat sometimes but man...he has some equalizers.
Benavidez? Avoided? If my memory serves correct it was his camp that was stalling the unification fight with Plant when they were saying he had all the leverage. Now he has no leverage and no belt there seems to be a sense of urgency to want tough fights. He was supposed to have the WBC belt but 2 times he showed a lack of discipline outside the ring.
Plz dont compare that cheating Margarito aka Luis resto with Benavidez, Margarito was slow with 0 defense and needed cement to beat on smaller fighters
