Probably because he realized that he was never going to get near the title.

The point is, that these guys didn't lose to Marciano.

They didn't even lose to the guys that Marciano beat.

They lost to the guys who were not quite worthy of Marciano's attention!

Rocky could have defeated King Kong, Godzilla and Mothra one after the other.
He'd have problems with Mechagodzilla, who, after all, is a robot.

Personally believe the Rock would be to crafty for the very mechanical Machgodzilla

That’s easy. There’s gotta be at least 10 fighters smaller than Primo that could have beaten Marciano.

It is a complicated question. A lot of big guys could not have kept up with Rocky's pace.

Unfortunately he had heath problems and couldn't pass physicals. Potgieter was actually not supposed to be fighting at all and was barred from fighting by his own physician in 1956, but found some other doctor to sign off for him behind his doctor's back. He started fighting again in 1957 and was supposed to be fighting Nino Valdez instead of Holman, but arrangements were made for Holman to replace Valdez and with the winner being guaranteed a shot at Valdez, which Holman got after beating Potgieter. After the Holman fight Potgieter's doctor got wind that Potgieter was fighting and recommended his license get pulled again and Potgieter was never able to get a fight license again.

Here is a little info on how Potgieter got permanently suspended.
The Portland Boxing Commission has received a recommendation from its physician that the suspension of heavyweight Ewart Potgieter by the Massachusetts Boxing Commission be upheld.

Dr. Clinton McGill stated that his recommendation was made after telephone conversations with Dr. Philip Henneman of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where Potgieter had an operation last year to correct a glandular condition.

Dr. Henneman revealed to Dr. McGill that Potgieter had promised to return to the hospital one month after the operation for further examination and, if necessary, for further treatment. The South African giant has not done so.

Here are some photos and info on his fights against his two best opponents Holman and James Parker.

Rocky Marciano would have beaten Dustin 'Worm' Nichols, who weighed 450 pounds in 2011, probably quickly.
