This would be an outstanding fight that I could see going either way to be honest. Both guys at their best is truly a pickem fight if I have ever seen one. Gun to my head, I'm picking the guy that nearly beat both Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano to use his movement to out point Quarry.

One thing about Walcott is that he would be smart enough to know not to stay in Quarrys wheelhouse for to long and open himself up to Jerry's sharp counter punches.

This is exactly the way I see it. Quarry had a bigger problem w boxer punchers I think then anything else. But both tired down the stretch. Can imagine the late rounds being dicey for both fighters

IMHO, Quarry off to a slim, early lead, with Walcott taking over, decisively, in the middle rounds, to the end. I have Jersey Joe by Unanimous Decision.

Prime for prime, Walcott should win all day. But Walcott fought so many good fighters that took decisions from him that you cannot completely discount Quarry.

    it’s a good fight though.

Horrible fight for Quarry this is. Jerry was an instinctive counter puncher but had been taught virtually from the cradle to go forwards. He always struggled with back foot Fighters, Ellis, Ali, second Patterson fight.
Walcott was the proto Ali, shaking his hips, rolling his gloves and making his opponent make the fight. Look at the first Louis fight. Imagine Jerry Quarry in there against that.
I have nothing but admiration for Quarry, as countless posts on here will attest but I simply can see no way he beats Joe Walcott.

They both found ways to lose big fights. I give Quarry a good chance but would def favor Walcott because of styles

I believe that Walcott lost 30% of the times he stepped through the ropes.

Given that, and other factors, I pick a prime and fit Quarry.

If you can find a way Jerry wins here barring lightning strike, I'll get the beers in Gazelle. And I love Quarry to bits.

I find Rummy only half a step above Bert Sugar. And that is not a compliment.

Again, I have cited numerous contemporaries who labeled Walcott a journeyman and a fellow who outwaited the division to find an ebb in the tide where he could rise above the the water level.

Very few HWs have as many quality wins as JJ. Very few. Journey men don’t have quality wins like that. They just don’t. Had more quality wins then many top twenty HWs.
    Edit
    Some wins for you
    Charles x2
    Harold Johnson
    Jimmy Bivins
    Elmer Ray
    Joe Baksi
    Curtis Sheppard
    Joey Maxim
To name a few...and what should have been a victory against Louis imo
