I think it would be interesting but Joe Joyce arguably has the best chin in boxing next to Ruiz. But he also has no head movement and just absorbs shots. I don't think he could get away with that against better fighters.
I'm 50/50 with this potential fight. Joyce' relentless pressure, tough chin, gas tank and being one of the few HWs that Whyte wouldn't be able to bully physically will cause Whyte all sorts of problems. Then again, being that open and poor defensively as Joyce is against the guy that probably has most powerful left hook in the divison....
Joyce probably wins for me. I’ve learned not to judge him on the eye test. He’s painfully slow and cumbersome but he knows how to fight to his strengths. Composed, granite chin, sticks to a plan and has a hellacious gas tank. Isn’t an easy night for anyone.
Whyte looked like all the 'warm weather Ped 'training worked for him... His body seems to have changed more since the last Povetkin fight than the last 5 years
I'm not totally sold on Joyce yet. Dubois was a very good win, but it was against a very green fighter who had largely been in walkovers up until that point. I think as you say, it's partially the eye test. He looks cumbersome and ugly. I *think* I'd back him against Whyte and I think it would be a fantastic fight to watch. I think Joyce would lose against Joshua, Fury, Usyk, Wilder.. Not sure about Ruiz, depends how Ruiz looks now he's lost the excess weight.
I think Ruiz is looking fantastic at the minute, shape wise, movement wise, and of course now he's under eddy reynoso. Let's see how he shapes up in a fight first thought obviously I think he will be a force though
Do u know what sickened me most about this ppv. It was when Whyte was talking about a rubber match with Povetkin immediately after. Sky completely glossed over how shot Pov was coming into this fight. If posters on this board can see and call how much povetkin is shot and shouldn't be fighting, then the people who have been around him and living with him for a week in a bubble, seeing the open workouts live, and his training routines, they should definatly see how much he's deteriated. Whyte and his team must of seen it, of course they did. They will of been talking about it, then to start talking about a 3rd bout after the win was beyond belief for me.
Yep. I've been saying Povetkin should retire for a few years now. And was pretty much guaranteed to be shot after the gruelling 12 rounder with Hunter, where he already looked nearly done. Weird how Whyte can go 1-1 with him and retain such a deluded following.
He's apparently lost 40ib...even then that should have him in the high 16 stone low 17 stone bracket which should only make him faster and still a handful for anyone. I really liked him before the Joshua fights, really hope he comes back better.
Not surprised in the slightest Whyte was talking about a rubber match. It's becoming increasingly obvious that Whyte and Eddie have been running a scam on the fans since the AJ fight - convince fans that they're building towards a title shot but in reality taking meaningless fights against has beens and nobodies on PPV to get filthy rich. Take little to no risk in matchmaking to insure those sacks of PPV loot keep coming in, the Povetkin KO loss was a spanner in the works but things seem to be back on track now. In hindsight Whyte turning down the AJ rematch in 2019 should have been a red flag and then talking about fighting Wilder post fight on Saturday but a couple of days later saying his next opponent might be Trevor Bryan was another giveaway to Dill and Eddie's real agenda. It's all been a conjob.
Shouldnt be surprised as you're talking about the same guy who called out David Haye literally minutes after losing to Bellew.
Mental how people are now saying whytes taking no risk matches....bearing in mind hes took absolute shellackings in some of these fights. Definetaly not no risk matches. Perfect career matchmaking for me. Lost against joshua...needed to go back one tier down...now hes as ready as he,ll ever be to take on a wilder, joshua or fury if the chance does come up. Probably wont win...but at least hes gave himself every chance. Didnt really do that before the first joshua fight. Although the calling out of povetkin was just wierd as was the haye calling out. Think the covid finished povetkin off...age as well tbh. But povetkin had just knocked him out. Looked like he,d seen better days in that fight as well...but its a case of if whyte didnt fight him...hes ran away...and if he did fight him...its taking liberties. What can you do...cant do right for doing wrong.
