Grew up dealing with ridiculous racist bullying, as a product of that he has no time for big mouths and bullies. People forget where Joe Calzaghes head was prior to the Reid fight, he was not in the right frame of mind at all and I think it showed. He scraped it on the night and went onto prove his worth, even if we had to endure his Frank inspired WBO pad out.
Do you not think Calzaghe is a bit overrated? I think he's very good and beat everybody he faced, but not exactly the type to face all comers. I rate him highly, but not as highly as a lot of others. I'm not a fan of him as a person, can't stand people who betray their family, but I put that to one side. He has this goody goody image but that's a load of shite.
Reid is his own worst enemy. He beat calzaghe very narrowly in my opinion. So what does he do?....immediately in the post fight interview he says "I lost no doubt" "Joe beat me in my opinion" or words to that effect....only in the dumbest most naiive wet way. As a fan I was annoyed. ...more so ..since the last 15 years he's changed his mind and now whines constantly at the decision. He should've called it out at the time and agitated for a rematch...instead he pissed away the prime years of his career ie 97-2003....he lost fair and square to ottke too ...he whines about that when he should've been whining at the time about calzaghe Calzaghe is hugely overrated now.i felt again he lost narrowly to Hopkins. Like lennox Lewis...most his career he was disliked as aloof arrogant and awkward. Lennox has undergone a metamorphosis post career so has Joe they're nicer guys now. But Joe is overrated!
Why do we always have to s**t on our own fighters? An annoying trend that has been going for years and years..
Joe was an awesome fighter. Lightning fast, fit as a fiddle, and tough. A clever fighter. He was one of our best. Undefeated for a reason. Joes autobiography is a good read, and interesting insight into his life and career.
Spot on. It's almost you're like not allowed to have a bad day at the office on this board.. Take the Fury - Schwarz for example.. Or Dubois - Joyce. One bad fight and you have to prove yourself all over again, it's ridiculous.
He was all those things...I just feel he is now overrated based on I) overrated wins over lacey and kessler who were b list guys made out to be A list. Ii) the shocking demise of roy Jones jnr from 2004 onwards.... Iii) the hopkins fight was one of his best performances to come back into it but I had it 6-5-1 bhop. He needed to fight a prime Jones jnr to fight a 2000-2004 hopkins...step up fight tarver or johnson in 2004-2005 when they were hot...ottke would been tricky too imo...a real class technician like that who always found a way to win. I realise I'm in the minority here and don't seek to convert any1 to my views
Spot on. His 46-0 is a joke, and he seemed like a very smug and unlikeable guy who was full of himself.
Only on this board could Calzaghe be called the unlikeable one when talking about him and Robin Reid.
