Not completely true. He figured out the straight right counter was bread and butter early on in his fights with Trout and Lara. I think hes going to figure out BJS early on and then he'll start banging that body.

 

Once BJS conditioning starts catching up with because hes too much on his backfoot trying to box, hes going to get more flat footed and more willing to trade with Canelo and that will be his downfall. Those body shots are going slow him down big time.

 

His conditioning under the Ingle gym was impeccable, don't think he can get to that level without them . I can't see a Lemieux level of performance from BJS, I think he will flag in the 8 onwards & if Canelo himself doesn't fade then he'll stop BJS late on...

 

In here to catch up on Frampton vs Herring. Ended up staying for Drenlou vs CST80.

 

Respect to both.

Frampton had no idea how to deal with Herring's size and style so had to throw caution to wind to change things. Left himself open and JH pounced.

Two very CLOSE fights and ask yourself when was his last real battle of skills other than them two and GGG.
I gave him the edge on Lara (due to running shoes) and Austin but several fans had it a draw or an L for Big Red

 

Herring seems like a good bloke. A lot of the former Marines I know are out of their god damn minds.

 

A nice win on paper for Herring and a job well done.

But if we don't credit him too greatly, let it be for this reason;

Frampton was never an A fighter, even in his best days and at his optimum weight.

The guy is possessed of a certain caliber of physical talent which, along with some gritty intangibles (heart, determination, toughness), carried him to top contender level. But he was always a fairly one dimensional fighter who relied too heavily on beating guys to the punch and came up short in some less visceral intangible categories (his ring intelligence has been considerably overestimated in some quarters).

He never established himself as the man in any division he campaigned in. When he had the chance to do just that, he shamelessly dodged Guillermo Rigondeaux—old Finbar McGuigan (replying to Frampton's barrister), "He got the very best fights out there in the super-bantamweight division, avoided the danger men and got wonderful opportunities and made lots of money. I don't know how I could have handled his career better, I really don't." And if Leo Santa Cruz had brought his A game to their first meeting, Carl's best win would still be Scott Quigg.

He is, and always was, a B guy who will win some and lose some against other B guys. There's no disgrace in that, but for too long he's been cracked up as something more—some perspective is well overdue.

This is why he was badly hurt by the shot which produced the second knockdown.

His chin is still solid enough—he absorbed a whole barrage of clean punches while badly hurt and remained vertical. The uppercut was unseen and precise (right on the point of the chin), carried the weight of a naturally much bigger man and it was compounded by Frampton's forward momentum. That's sometimes all it takes, good chin or not (and Frampton's has always been dependable enough, if not quite iron).

I favored Herring to win a decision with his long boxing tonight, but figured the KO could be there for him if Frampton sold out—Carl's always tended to look a little out of water on the front foot.

 

Wtf, this is over already? Lil Butt's mom was late picking him up, but figured a little before ten meant I had time just to crack a beer and settle in before a main event.

edit: oh, didn't even realize it was in the UK. Nevermind.

 

Billy Joe won't trade when he experiences his customary mid-late fade, he's too contrary and wily. His punch output will just drop and he'll pull out all his tricks with the intent to survive. Even if he knows he's losing clearly, he won't go for broke.

He isn't the only guy in this matchup who's tended to sag some in the second half of fights, anyway, so I don't see the heat reaching a level of intensity that a slippery guy like Saunders can't fiddle his way out of.

I think we'll see a distance fight. Canelo will be favored by the official judges in any scenario except a one-sided schooling in Saunders' favor, which isn't happening—Billy needs to win around ten rounds fairly emphatically, and Alvarez is too good to suffer a near shut out in this matchup.

I do think Canelo will be a deserving winner, however, by a close but clear (116-112) kind of margin. The focus in the aftermath, as always, will be on the ludicrous official scoring, which will probably look more like 118-110, 119-109 on at least two of the judges' scorecards.

i disagree. saunders doesnt win 4 rds and gets stopped between 8-11. and the way you described frampton above, describes what i see in bjs.

 

How on earth did he get up from that uppercut by the way? It looked like it was lights out instantly then the bump to the floor woke him up. A true warrior.
