I do, and not because he cant, it is because he wont. Marciano will annoy him into a war. Everyone thought they could trade with Marciano. Marciano is as relentless as Frazier. Ali will fight him.

In reality, you had to fight Marciano, or run. Ali could move like no other, but I think he decides to go toe to toe, knowing he is faster and more fluid. He like all the other great boxers ( he is the greatest of them) will think they can beat him and stop him. Ali was a true champion and he will not run and take the easy victory when he thinks he can outclass someone at their own game.

It will cost him in this one. He would not make the same mistake in a rematch.

Show me the fight where Ali just stops dancing for no reason and gets into a war giving up his reach and speed advantages. Manilla does not count.

WHY would that not count? Marciano and Frazier were similiar in size and agression. Rocky has better 2 handed attacks, and a mildly better defense ( got hit less) and perfected the crouch attack. While Frazier was better at movement and had a better left hook.

You could look at ALL 3 of their fights for reference. Ali won the next 2, but he boxed. He learned. I think the same thing would happen vs Marciano. Marciano probably hit harder and had more stamina than Frazier as well.

The very best example of what would happen would be the Frazier/Ali Series. Then take into account Rocky and his sytle differences. I just do not see Ali winning the first fight between them. I think he would win a series , but they would all be FOY candidates. Rocky would in it to the end.

Because Ali was not in his prime in Manilla

Read the thread title. He literally couldn't dance for 15 rounds by that point. It doesn't remotely make sense to assume Ali would just suddenly stop moving and start trading with Rocky. Pretty wishful thinking.

I could see both guys hospitalized after this one, for a few days. Marciano's head all swollen, cut up, and bruised and Ali with badly bruised ribs, and other inside problems. Neither of them would feel very good for weeks afterwards. This is the classic "styles make fights" textbook example. IMO, Ali gets the nod in a close one.

I have a theory that he had the stuffing beaten out of him by a Liston clone and to this day cannot deal with it.
I have been looking at threads from 2010 and its just unhealthy that someone can spend all those years with so much hatred against Liston & Co.

To be fair you have to add that Frazier was bigger, & mainly that his hand speed & accuracy was significantly greater.
Also he cut more easily, even if he swelled less, this could stop a fight.

I think Marciano would be lucky to get 1 fight out of three-& that is if it was against '70's Ali.

Swagman, What you see as a vendetta are merely answers to support a defence for other fighters. Nothing racist..

Is this a different thing than saying Marciano lasts no longer than quarry did against Ali? Or that Lennox Lewis v Marciano represents Lewis against Justin Fortune? People say stuff like this all the time. But if I compare Cleveland Williams to Charley Powell or ike Ibeabuchis legacy to Micheal Grant before he lost all hell breaks lose.

If I was racist why do I use Frazier and Orlin Norris to demonstrate my points? But you know this little buddy. Your just pulling my chain.

what is most unhealthy is you deciding it can only be hatred that I might disagree with you and defend a great fighter...when you are sifting through ten year old threads (that I didn’t even start) in order to bait me all over again.

I am not baiting you....I have better things to do. You aren't THAT important I'm afraid.

People were already pulling you up on it all those years ago.

@choklab Why'd you change your vote from Ali to Marciano?

Because I think Rocky can win one of three fights like Frazier did. Ali wins two out of three. @Balder made very persuasive points.

lol, Balder is the same person who said Louis was ONLY 37 when he faced Marciano and rates Louis at number 5. Real objective poster. No wonder you enjoy his posts.

Also if Ali would still win 2 out of 3, why would you vote for Marciano if he still loses the majority of times?

Learn to read. I said "I DON'T think he's racist" but would not be overly surprised if it came out that you were.
