Gvozdyk, really good fighter. Shame he retired so soon.

    Eimantas Stanionis. Great welterweight prospect.
    ~ Impressive work rate
    ~ Nice defense
    ~ Piston-like jab

    Agreed.

His fight with Beterbiev is a modern classic, IMHO.

    Good thread idea mate.

Currently binging on 1950s Welterweights so not one fighter but an era of fighters. Really like Johnny Bratton. I know a lot of people say he was Sugar Ray Robinson-lite but even an imitation of SRR is worth watching.

Marcos Villasana just a tough with an A list chin. Seems to make every fight fun

Just a super smooth boxer but with a bit of pop as well. Maybe not as busy as he could be, though. He didn't have a weak chin but had a weak jaw (I think he had it broken on three separate occasions) which let him down, including his title fight with Kid Gavilan. His fight with Charley Fusari is one of the best welterweights fights I've seen.

I’m currently training a heavyweight who doesn’t shut up about Jack Dempsey, and I don’t mind

Currently I'm watching a lot of the contemporary top welterweights.

    And Naoya Inouye.

I rewatched several Scott Harrison fights last weekend since I was trapped in doors due to weather.

Harrison was ungodly strong, hit hard with both hands, and was one tough *****. Also, I think the fact that his personal life wound up the way it did kind of obscures the fact that he had good Ring IQ. He was surprisingly adaptable for an aggressive body puncher; just look at the improvement between his 1st and 2nd fights with Michael Brodie, and his two fights with Manuel Medina.

Looking back I wish we could have have seen him scrap with In Jin Chi, another outstanding featherweight from that era who was overshadowed by Manny and the Three Amigos.

Salvador Sanchez. His use of angles and melding of different styles just makes him a delight to watch. He left this earth too soon.
