Robinson would have toyed with Nigel Benn at 160, but does that mean Turpin would have beaten Benn at 160?

    It’s a very good fight!

my money would be on Benn. Turpin could dish it out but didn’t soak it up as well as he dealt it.

I see the fight as being two sided, with Turpin getting caught, going down perhaps more than once. But managing to dig in and stopping him in around 8.
    But what a great fight.

Benn didn`t soak up Eubank or Watson`s shots very well either, plus he was hurt by Galvano at 168 too.

He was. You are right, but I saw Turpin go over against lesser men. BoBo Olsen was a tough grinder... but he was not Eubank.

the Watson fight can be excused in the way Turpin fight with Jean Stock. Then there was Yolanda Pompey and Teberii Mitri and Gordon Wallace. At this level it’s two strikes and your out.

Benn stood up to and beat Iran Barkley and Gerald McLennan. The win over Sugar Ray Robinson was erased in the rematch.

Turpin was doing well in a close rematch, then Ray got cut and went for it, Barkley looked sluggish v Benn and was caught cold as Benn came flying out.

Mark likes to post matchups but he already has a predetermined winner in his head already which is why everytime he does this he only argues the case in one direction always reverting back to the old if fighter A beats fighter B ect

Turpin was a great talent. His win over Don Cokkell was stunning.

But there was something about him. Randy probably didn’t know how good he was. He was reportedly quite a basic and unsophisticated soul who probably lacked the desired focus to reach full potential. He was not always switched on. In truth, He had some issues.

Benn was really switched on. He enjoyed a fight more than just about anyone. He was always up for the challenge. To me, he has the more reliable temperament.

I didn't think the Barkley fight should have been stopped that soon. He should have gotten one more chance

The three knockdown rule was in effect

The WBO had the three knockdown rule in that fight and Benn justt kept knocking Barkley on his butt over and over because Iran was wide open in that fight.

I've never liked that rule, every situation is different in a fight so that this type rule cannot cover all situations
