I can remember clearly the vibe of the time, Tyson beat Bruno in a dominant style, then Seldon went out lookin terrified. Holyfield, as you say, looked done, washed up and done. The feeling was Tyson was going to hurt him badly!
People booed the Seldon fight, he threw the fight, nobody was impressed by that shambolic fight at all.
Well he probably got caught with a punch he wouldn’t otherwise have got caught with. He improved from that as a fighter. Do you think a guy who got rattled in round 2 versus Cummings can give Lewis trouble? Chins can improve too. Or do you think 70’s Ali gets floored by Cooper and Sonny Banks too? Don’t be an arsehole Mark.
Boxer Cassius Clay Sonny Banks Pre-fight record 10-0 10-2 Height 6 ft 3 in (191 cm) 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) Weight 194 lb (88 kg) 191 lb (87 kg)
Yes. And nobody remembers this. Tyson V Holyfield revised everything. Not only did it mark the end of classic sized heavyweights. this as the last great fight before it became the SHWs division.. but with “just one fight” Tysons successful comeback was dismissed and forgotten whilst former champion Evander was finally legitimised.
I wonder, if Holyfield had never come back after Moorer 1,how many fights Tyson has winning before he runs in to Lewis?
There wasn`t anyone of note around in between Holy`s first fight with Moorer and Tyson`s dismal display v Lewis aside from Moorer himself or maybe Mercer, Bowe fell apart during that period and Tyson eventually destroyed Golota.
He also looked stiff and over muscular not fluid of thought or action. In the Mathis fight he pulled off some slick 85-88 style footwork at the knockout...but it was like all fight he was struggling to remember that stuff. I've always found it ironic...that 1st round against Danny Williams was the fastest most fluid and elusive tyson had looked since 1988....but he'd totally lost his power, heart, stamina and chin by than.
