Pretty hard to argue with JC being greatest SMW of all time.

But what would Canelo need to do at 168 to surpass him? Do you think it's even possible?

Obviously he would need to be undisputed, then fight David Benavidez.

I feel like if he fought Charlo, Andrade, and GGG @168 he MIGHT be in with a shout...

    Thoughts?

Is Calzaghe the greatest SMW of all time?

Andre Ward ranks higher and would have taken him apart too.

First of all SMW division is trash apart from weight bully Benavidez. Secondly, when will Canelo's opponents actually come to win?

I feel like BJS has a great chance to upset Canelo, elusive south paw boxer. If he can stay on the outside he's got a chance!

You don't think Saunders is coming to win? Plant is just gonna roll over? I think Benavidez will come to win.

I don't think it's fair to say opponents aren't coming to win against Canelo. Are you basing this on Kovelev, Smith and Yildrim?

Mhmm good Point, Ward probably does Take Calzaghe H2H, as far as the most impressive SMW, imo, it's JC.

    Opinions, right!?!

Can Canelo overtake Ward in your books? What would he need to do at 168 to achieve that?

Too me some other fighters would need to move to 168... I don't think there's enough competition at 168 currently... that being said going undisputed and beating Benavidez would certainly put him up there with the greats of 168, no?

Don't think canelo will be able to...not sure there's enough talent at the weight..depends how long he campaigns there tbh

And Joe is the supermiddle goat...only person if favour over him h2h at the weight is Roy jones.... Think he'd beat ward ...close but clear

Why not? Ward beat a solid list of guys and plenty of top 10 opponents.
Definitely a close call if nothing else.

    *Canelo lacks that opposition.

Sure, he can overtake Calzaghe if he cleans out the division over the next few years and beats at least a couple of killers... but Ward? Strong resume and head to head counts for something... prime Ward was an excellent fighter who would have smoked Canelo (and Calzaghe) at 168.
