No disrespect to the winners of the fights but yesterday I watched khan Vs maidana for the first time I'm years...still A great fight but all the way through I thought...honestly how did khan stay on his feet throughout the contest..his chin held upto some hellacious punishment that night...but I thought ...if these 2 fought 10 times I'd favour maidana to win the other 9 by ko. So this topic was born .... Which fights have been fought in history where if both men met ten times...you'd favour the loser of their bout to win the other 9..or at least 8 - 2
In credit of Khan, what is often overlooked is how he almost knocked Maidana out with a beautiful liver punch. For the rest hail mary punches after getting beaten up the whole fight and fights where the opponent rose to the ocasion. Say a Foreman vs moorer, Douglas vs Tyson (his mom dying).
I think the stars aligned for Ali the night he fought Foreman. If Foreman could re-do that night once again and not be so dumb, I think Ali winning is less favourable.
Roger Gutierrez vs Rene Alvarado. They are currently 1 and 1 with Alvarado winning the first one via KO and Gutierrez getting a UD in the rematch. I was one of the few who picked Gutierrez as I saw he had made some adjustments that would help him in the rematch. But I must say I got a bit lucky with that pick. The thing with those two is that Alvarado won every round in the first fight and lost by a single point in the rematch. In a fight that Gutierrez scored 3 knockdowns. Roger Gutierrez needed 3 knockdowns to win via a single point on all 3 scorecards. That is bonkers. Credit to the man for pulling it off, but this is one of those instances where luck was clearly on one guys side.
I doubt that. Foreman was Foreman and Ali was tagging him with clean right hands from the opening minute. Ali was also ahead on the scorecards when the fight was stopped. And it the subsequent years Foreman didn´t really show a change in his approach to boxing.
Khan for 6 rounds was superb...it's around that point where he slows ever so slightly n his concentration slips...but I couldn't help but be s fan after the fight...I was one of those who claimed he avoid maidana like the plague
Hatton V Kosta??? All came together for Hatton that night, he was eating right hands and barely blinked just moved forward. Then there's the weird body shot/low block knockdown that Parris waves away and then Hatton comes back with an absolute monster of a low blow. Wouldn't get away with that anywhere else without a deduction. Graham V Jackson. JJ always had the equalizer but still he was getting a beating.
I didn't see their first fight but I thought Gutierrez was going to stop him all the way through the second...I had money on the Alvarado's by ko as a double...pissed me off that fight lol
I dunno..as strong as Loma came on I wouldn't put it past two doing it again in the rematch...he's a big as lightweight n Loma looked a little hurt a few times. And I thought Loma would clown him
A great original thread ! For me it's Lopez v. Loma. It's hard to clown, let alone beat, a guy when you have one arm. Loma needed two shots just to get in the ring and had surgery the following Monday.... still won 6rds. There's a reason Lopez won't even speak about a rematch. The other fight affected badly by a shoulder injury was May vs. Pac. Pac couldn't spar or hit the heavy bag after about week 2 in camp, came into the ring looking smooth as a soda can at his heaviest ever weight 152lbs, and had Mayweather in reverse and sliding along the ropes all night long. People say he couldn't let the punches rip because he feared Mayweather's counter punching, and maybe that's completely true, but I would love to see a two armed Pac in that fight.
Loma clearly gave away the first half. But Lopez didn´t just do nothing either. He boxed exactly the way he was supposed to. And like you said, when Loma did turn it up was when Lopez hurt him. So we know Lopez can box with him and we know he can hold his own under a firefight. The rematch should be excellent.
