You think Carl Frampton made as much money as someone who spent their working life in McDonalds???

    Dream on.

That's based on what, a quick google of his net worth which is just some pseudo journalist having a guess?

What a shame you never met Carl to let him know winning those world titles and becoming one of his country's greatest fighters was totally pointless, he could have just spent his life serving big macs and vanilla milkshakes for all the good it did him...

bbjc I'm sure you are a decent bloke with good intentions but your posts are padded out with far too much waffle about how these fighters are so hard done by. They're not.

Did you not read the post? I never said carl earned the same as someone working in mcdonalds. Carl benefitted from the ppv model. But what if carl hadnt. How much is he walking away with....if the 1.8 million figures to be believed.

Search all their net worths. The same places have darts players sitting at net worths of 5 or 6 million. Tennis and golf players net worths of 40 million. Thats not even the superstars...and yet boxings always not as much as you would think outwith the joshuas and mayweathers. People dont take into account what comes off a purse...as in tax....management fees...training camps ...trainer fees...and in carls case the mcguigans.

So 1.8 million with ppv. How much without it. 800,000? 600,000? £400,000. What about the less succesful guys...£200,000. £100,000 over a career.

If you add up a career of say 30 years on £10 an hour...your looking at £600,000. Lets say 40 years...£800,000.

Its not directly comparable but just looking at it....thats the guy at the top of the tree....what about the lesser guys...what about the guys that end up punch drunk....i know what one would be the safer bet with my son anyway.

Agree these guys aren,t hard done by...these are the guys that became succesful. But what about the hard luck stories in boxing. Which there are many.

Its not personally about chisora or whyte or frampton or whoever. But you cant have a sport on top of its game without it being funded properly. And that means paying the guys at the top their due worth whoever that may be. Footballers make 150k a week. People want to see top 4 in the whole world heavyweights fight for that and then pay trainers, managers, training camps etc.

Every other sport pays better than a non ppv sport of boxing. Thats a problem.

Without that money we,re seeing the shows...their lacklustre at best. Poor cameras...poor overall standard. Its not good enough.

Boxing needs that money to compete with other sports. Look at eddies shows...the productions top quality in comparison. Thats what sells. Without it your just struggling on trying to please a market thats not big enough.

Contrary to opinion...i,m not eddie hearns biggest fan. I,ve got problems with ppv. I think he is holding out on people. He is cutting down the expenses as it goes on.

Probably another long winded post tbh.

You do appear to be going for the full 12 rounds in most of your replies when a big overhead right can get your point across in a couple of lines.

Totally agree these guys i m talking about aren,t hard done by...these guys are really the success stories. But its not about whyte or chisora or frampton...it is really about
...how boxing will always struggle without that ppv money.

It,ll never have a market big enough to sustain itself...unlike most other sports. Its either a case of a sport that only hardcores will follow....or a sport that could one day be big enough to sustain itself.

I did read your original post, I get the impression you maybe didn't read mine.

My point is that the figure you keep referring to again of 1.8 million as a net worth is a wild guess, yet your taking it as a fact, it's not.

I don' want to get into a long argument, but whichever way you want to look at it, Carl has earned multiple times what someone working in McDonalds there whole career has. To suggest otherwise is I think just naïve, PPV or otherwise.

A world champion boxer with that level of recognition has numerous commercial opportunities open to them, and various revenue streams in addition to what they actually get paid on fight night- sponsorship, media work, pubic appearances, revenue from investments, speaking engagements (which can sometimes pay the equivalent of 2 years salary for one night's work) just to give a few examples.

And yes, I am familiar with the costs of training camps and other expenses fighters have over the course of a career I think a good portion of posters here also are.

There are definitely numerous fighters who don't make anything close to good money out of the sport, but you gave this one specific example which was a bit silly that's why I'm responding to that specifically, otherwise no question there are fighters not earning much always were always will be that's the nature of sport and the nature of life. There are sports people in virtually every sport who are not well compensated for their efforts.

If I was remotely good at boxing I'd give it a go in a heartbeat, beats the absolute mundaniety of the rubbish I do 9-5. If my dad was an ex World Champion boxer I'd no doubt have been inspired and felt like there was a way into the sport. Unfortunately he's an ex RAF Sargent, now dead with his RAF pension, that he'd put so much into, gone back into the RAF rather than his kids inheriting it because sods law meant that mum died before him so their two kids were left in their early and mid twenties without parents and without a huge chunk of inheritance. If I'd have known all of that when I was 10 I'd have forced dad to let me go to boxing and pretend to be my then hero, ironically a man along with Watson and Owen that meant my dad would never let me box, rather than go to a Hap Ki Do class that would close down within two years when I was just getting badass at it. I've kind of lost where I'm going with this........I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I think we need to stop pretending that boxing is the only way for a lot of these people and they need all the money they can get. My dad served this country for 19 years and when he left he got 17k. When he died they took his money. I don't want to read anymore rubbish. Soldiers are far more at risk than boxers, they're there to earn for their families and don't go away from their families for training camps in Marbella followed by a few weeks on the beach after the fight. Seriously, I get that boxing is a tough sport, I understand the sacrifices but it's just a sport, the world can carry on without it, we love it and we respect the fighters but we need to stop with the rubbish like "it's a short career" as if they deserve to never work again after the age of 35 because they were decent at a sport or half decent at a sport and managed well enough to pad out the record and fight the right people at the right time until some absurd, and it is absurd, money comes their way. I've stood in a field full of men buried 6ft beneath me, they all earned less in their lives, combined, than Derek Chisora did for being competitive in the eyes of Adam Smith against Usyk, I know it's a weird comparison and I know this is a weird post but of all the long ones here in this thread I'd like to think there's something a bit more worthwhile reading in this one. A training camp, when let's face it, you have nothing else to do, a few pressers and 1 to 36 minutes against Usyk earns you millions, I've gone on for too long now, let's just say that they get well paid and if they don't like it do something else, it's just a sport.

It is not that easy unless you are amateur superstar ( managers even offer signup bonuses and promoters too ) or someone impactful wish to promote you.
Boxers who are not from this sort usually might choose 2 was of career: you sell tickets or are used to fill undercards in small shows, even club level and are working up your way. You initially will care more about how your opponent's purse will be paid.
You maybe might get 1k of 2k for bums beatup in small hall event because this time tickets sales went well and bum was cheap.
You maybe might get 100 for tough fight because sales were not good or opponent was more expensive. Opponents price depends from their ranking, fight record, how well known they are.
In period when boxer climbs up in rankings he might have fights when he get lesser $ than their opponents on B side.
Next career choice might be a journeyman for B side. A lot of failed possible prospects too are journeymans.

When you had some established fanbase, with you is possible to sell tickets, you might start to earn more.
First year - two years for noname boxers are hard time, third and fourth carreer year too might be tough.

If you don't have money, you might be paid sparring partner for someone even with pro record like 9-0-0 or 11-0-0.
Pro boxers with such fight record might be also gym rats: working in gym and their main income is gym not fights.
Such kind of gym rats also happens that besides this are paid sparring partners.

The purses for people who don’t fight on telly are awful, until like you say you get a fan base and start becoming a bit of a draw - then you hopefully get a go on telly. Most of these boxers rely on sponsors to pay for meals, give them a little bit of income so they can get by. There’s been loads of great content on this in the last few years, Ohara Davies did a decent video on it and Bradley Rae had an article on BBC sport too.

It’s a tough way to make a living, but if you make it to a decent level you will get paid well enough for it. A local pro to me spent most of his career on around minimum wage, then had a decent enough record to get to British title level to start doing OK for himself before landing himself a few big ones at the end of his career. He made alright money but certainly not enough to live off for the rest of his life - maybe 3/4 years of income left before he had to work properly again.

Fights with Usyk of course are well paid. You need someone to place you to fight with him.

    Money depends from name.

You might have earn little money for fight with opponent who is not worse than prime Usyk.

For example peanuts for fight with noname guy who recently had KOed his opponent and this his opponent was not a joke and had more power than Usyk ( he had KOed cold 227 lbs pro kickboxer with 2 punches ) and more stoppge wins than Usyk in all his pro career had: 21 in pro KB and 4 in pro MMA with punches.
Boxer KTFOed him and now you are booked to fight with this beast for 5 , maybe 10 k or 15 k.
Cos he is noname and you will get beated by future world champion for peanuts while having him in his physical prime in the ring.
