first off, the context of that statement is not hard to understand. he is using "hardened"as an adjective he chose do describe the trainers statement, he was not quoting the trainer directly. second, you stated capetillo said it, not that someone said capetillo said it. only question is, am i looking at a lack of reading comprehension, or a deliberate move to push an agenda, regardless of truth.
The narrator's use of the term "hardened" isn't needed to be attributed directly to Capetillo since it is understood that after a fighter removes a handwrap, a sweat-soaked pad after a long training session would naturally become harder after the air dries it than a fresh, new soft pad would be. What we can infer from that statement directly from Capetillo is his claim that the pad that he put in Tony's wrap was used for another fighter and according to Capetillo, was used and re-used to protect one of his other fighter's hands. For Capetillo to say that, which he did say at the hearing, suggests that he was reusing this same pad in order to protect one of his other fighter's hands. How are we supposed to interpret that explanation from Capetillo for why a used handwrap was in his bag in the first place? Is a used, sweat-soaked knucklepad known to be better at protecting a fighter's knuckles than a new, fresh soft pad? And if so, why would that be? Or was there something special about that specific used knucklepad that protected his other fighter's hands more than a normal wrap as he claimed?
