I don't think that Ali could ever have replicated that same performance. He psyched out George and exhausted him in heat and humidity of Zaire. George would surely have gone into the rematch with different tactics where he'd have paced himself better. Ali really executed a masterplan. It was one of the bravest/stupidest things to carry out at the stage of his career. But it's the only way that he could win the fight. I don't think there was another way that he could have won the fight.
