Absolutely agree, a 30 year old Povetkin would never lose to Whyte. But it is, what it is.

I think he could definitely have knocked him out under different circumstances.

I don’t know what Ali could have done in the rematch.

He couldn’t have laid on the ropes again and waited until Foreman tired himself out.

I can’t see Canelo fighting differently unless there’d have been a noticeable difference with Floyd.

I don’t think he was scared of fighting Thaxton and Murray.

I don’t think he ever wanted to face Prescott again though.

Khan is way under rated. Very good and exciting fighter that beat many world champs.

    I hear what you’re saying.

I respect what you have written.

George always fought to his strengths. But Ali purposely laid on the ropes after the first few rounds in order to let George burn himself out. He laid back on the ropes and mocked George at every opportunity. He was goading him and telling him that he hit like a woman etc. His game plan was to tire George out so he could capitalise later. It was perfect. And George obviously underestimated him in the first fight where he thought he’d just crush him with his power. Especially as he’d crushed Frazier, Frazier had given Ali hell and most of the boxing world genuinely feared for Ali’s health. George thought it was going to be easy. He admits himself that he never studied Ali and that him and his trainer, D*ck Sadler were convinced that it was going to be a 3 round blowout. Sadler basically just sent George out to destroy him.

Realistically, how do you think a rematch could have played out?

George wouldn’t have underestimated him again in the same way.

    He’d got a new trainer.

The rematch would probably have been in the U.S.

Ali couldn’t have laid on the ropes like that again for 6 rounds.

I don’t believe that George would have just let his hands go and thrown the kitchen sink at him again, even if Ali had have laid on the ropes again.

    I don’t see it.

I have to believe that George would have gone in with a different mindset and a different game plan with a new trainer.

Without George blowing himself out and being absolutely exhausted, I don’t see how Ali could have won the fight.

Ali had the skills to outbox him, but over another 15 rounds, I think that George would have paced himself and then caught up to him and really hurt him.

    I hear you.

I read the thread as though we were looking at if they’d have rematched pretty much straight afterwards.

Why? Ward had more fresh Kovalev version than Canelo. Canelo fought older Kovalev's version recently almost finished in distance by Yarde and Kov didn't looked fresh in this fight.

Why do people think Loma would win a rematch?
