According to BoxRec, Nick Asberry (who now goes by the name "Muhammed Rasul Allah" according to his Instagram) - was scheduled to have a fight down in Mexico against an opponent named Jesus Alberto Martinez Torres on March 26th. BoxRec has not indicated a result for the fight yet...so perhaps it did not happen. Asberry had some notoriety a few years back as a prospect who was in Tyson Fury's camp for the Klitschko fight. In late-2016 he fought Malcom Tann - who was coming off a nine year layoff. To the surprise of many, Tann caught and stopped Asberry early in the fight. Since then not much has been heard of Asberry - though I can recall that BoxRec had indicated a couple fights had been scheduled for him. These did not come to fruition and it's unclear if the March 26th fight actually did happen.
Mike Balogun is continuing his painfully-slow climb up the HW division by fighting Keith Barr on April 10th. Balogun is too small (and probably already too old at aged 37) to do very much in the division - but this is a modestly-interesting fight since Barr has been in the ring with a few decent opponents and did manage to drop George Arias a year or two ago when the pair fought...even if Arias did ultimately claim the victory.
Anyone seen the Daptaev vs Mulowayi fight yet? See that Apti got stopped in 8. Bit of a Chechen sympathiser me so kinda gutted lol
That was my first reaction... ...but drilling down into it you can see that Mulowayi has been in the ring with a few decent fighters. He went the distance with Frank Sanchez and Herve Hubeaux. Davtaev hadn't fought for more than a year and it looks like his best victories are against Keith Barr and Daniel Martz. Looks to me like he fell into the same trap as Oleksandr Teslenko and Darmani Rock - they waited too damned long to step him up!
Not really. If you remember, many, many years ago, this guy was being hyped by some of the guys on here, and then he got a draw against a bum, and all his fans went silent, and he just disappeared. This was going to happen at some point.
Wallin is fighting out of the USA and Yoka is not. They are on different tracks at the moment. In any case, Wallin put in a good effort vs. Fury and got a solid win over Breazeale. I think Wallin is going to be pounding around the WBC circuit for a bit. I think he might get work against fighters like Efe or Kownacki.
Just read Meehan's Wiki page. A few things: 1) He had an amateur boxing career, which I did not know. 2) He was a professional rugby player, and 3) He worked as debt collector for criminals. Without making any moral judgement, he sounds like a good athlete, an at least somewhat schooled fighter (as opposed to Monk Foreman, Tre Lippe, etc), and, whether it was directed right or not, a tough guy. He also has a third fight scheduled for 2021, so who knows, he might go somewhere, unlike a lot of these legacy fighters.
Being Australian I did know that stuff and have thought of WM as a possible dark horse for some years. I think he needs to make a commitment one way or another. Possibly he's onto that now ... so we will see. If nothing else he might work himself into a position for a bit domestic fight with Huni at some stage, otherwise get into the world mix coz he still has some time on his side if he stays in the game from here on.
Tsotne Rogava (heavyweight) and Robert Marton (cruiserweight) from the Ukraine national team make their pro debuts tonight on the Usyk17 promotions card.
I apologize if this has already been reported...but prospect Amron Sands got TKO'd in the 3rd round against Alexis Garcia of the Dominican Republic - which is where the fight took place on March 12th. I never rated Sands as he's yet another "I was a good but not good enough athlete at Sport X - so I'll ljust give boxing a shot" story - but I feel it's necessary to report this for the sake of completeness and to remind people that such stories rarely have many chapters before they have their sad ending Since I worry about "completeness", I'll mention that Garcia is 30 years-old and moves to 9-0-0 with 6 KOs. I'll leave it up to the reader to determine if Garcia is worth keeping an eye on or not.
