He was acting. It's all he does. He was doing it to make people like you think he'll actually leave Sky. For BANTER.
I don't think its for banter thou, Imo its for him to get a better deal if he says he has a lot of people wanting his services. We know Dazn really do want him
All that "it's been a difficult decision" means Hearn is either leaving Sky or DAZN in my opinion. Or he would have said something like "we all have a great thing going here, why would we ruin it.. but we will see" I don't know, but it wouldn't be a "difficult" decision. Or maybe he is forcing Sky's hand, maybe he is trying to squeeze a few more pound coins out of any potential deal. Personally I think he is leaving Sky, MTK or Kalle's new outfit will step in with Sky Sports Boxing.
Sky sports free to air boxing has been poor since 2010, when Eddie started putting everything that he could on PPV. In 2010, he put five fights on PPV and none of them were PPV worthy. 3 April 2010: David Haye vs. John Ruiz – 177,000 24 April 2010: Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler – 50,000 18 September 2010: Kell Brook vs. Michael Jennings – 15,000 13 November 2010: David Haye vs. Audley Harrison – 223,000 11 December 2010: Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana – 164,000 Prior to that we had 6 PPVs in 10 years and they were as follows, with the earliest 4 in bold fitting the definition of PPV fights! 13 March 1999: Evander Holyfield vs. Lennox Lewis – 400,000 29 January 2000: Mike Tyson vs. Julius Francis – 500,000 8 June 2002: Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson – 750,000 8 December 2007: Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton – 1,150,000 18 July 2009: Amir Khan vs. Andreas Kotelnik – 100,000 7 November 2009: Nikolai Valuev vs. David Haye – 469,000 Sky sports cant build mass appeal stars or develop the sport if all they care are the PPV. I remember as far back as the early 2000s, back then we had some cracking fights free to air on Saturday nights on Sky. They could do it then. Why cant they do it now? I think it is greed on Hearn's part more than anything. Sky sports should be getting rid of Matchroom and Hearn, they are taking the ****.
Just to stop yourself looking a bit of a numpty. The only fight from those you mentioned that Hearn was involved in was Haye vs Harrison. That did 350k buys which was a major number back then. he’s been on record to say that was a stinker but it gained him sky’s trust to give him the exclusive Sky contract. He then did Froch vs Groves 1 and 2 and in within 2 years delivered the AJ PPV train to Sky.
No way he leaves DAZN globally his contract with them is worth 10 times the Sky contract. The biggest risk he runs is that DAZN as a platform ends up going under. I have a feeling that Wasserman May take the Sky contract. Hence Barry Hearns comments about them. They also seem to think they are doing Eubank vs Brook this summer in a stadium. Which they can’t do without a major broadcaster. my only other guess is whether he and Sky no longer become exclusive and he signs two deals that keep both happy. Sky get to work with other promoters. Hearn promises them 10 cards a year and 2 PPVs so half of what he does now. Works with DAZN to give them 6-8 cards a year in the UK. And see where things stand in a few years. Wouldn’t surprise me also that if he does move to DAZN. We also see the snooker and darts etc move over to them in the coming years.
Haye Harrison is being used as an example of success is it? It was one of the worst main event PPV fights in the history of boxing. Haye carried A-Farce for 3 rounds, then went for it in the 3rd. And it took about 20 seconds of an attack before, A-Farce threw himself to the ground and stayed there. A-Farce didnt land a single punch all fight. It made money but it stunk to high heaven.
Crikey, you’ve had a shocker there. Those PPVs you’ve listed for 2010 were Hayemaker or Warren shows, and Froch v Kessler wasn’t even on Sky! Eddie has an involvement with promoting Harrison in that fight against Haye, but it was very much a Hayemaker show rather than Matchroom. Before then, MR’s only real involvement with boxing was winning the purse bids for domestic title fights that nobody else wanted to show for pittance so that they would actually happen and be televised through the Sky deal. As for only six PPVs in 10 years before that, it was at least double if not triple that. You’ve missed out Khan v Prescott, ***an and Barrera, and a tonne of Hatton, Lewis and Tyson PPVs.
