That was a good fight and fair play to Ebanie Bridges, she is one who sold the **** out of that fight, putting the spotlight on women's boxing. She also proved she can actually fight and showed a lot of heart to get through those final two rounds with her eye closing so badly. Bridges also deserved better than 98-92, I actually thought it was pretty even after 8 rounds, but with scorecards like that even if the eye had not closed she would have required a knockout. I really can't see many people tuning in to watch the Courtney rematch with Rachel Ball though
A very dangerous and arguably stupid way to go about things, there's a definite correlation between this, mental health and suicide rates.
Social media is definitely an outlet for narcicism. That's true, but most people who relentlessly use social media do it without any sort of financial gain, so the argument here is that there are certain boxers who simply love themselves. Absolutely, and a lot of the people who complain about mental health are glued to social media. The amount of people I see walking down the street, often in groups, all looking at their phones, is just crazy. Of course, I can't prove that they're not doing something else on their phones, but being around people who are like that myself, I often find that they are scrolling through Instagram these days. Some people are just consumed. There's so much for people to enjoy in the world right in front of them. I wonder what things will be like in 2100. It seems to be going more and more that way.
Well Ebanie evidently gained something from her social media hussle. Without it she wouldnt have gotten a spot on a Matchroom card.
That cannot be argued with. To further EJC83's post, I would say that there's quite a lot of young women these days who actually aspire to the "influencer" status. Although they may eventually gain from it financially, they are still clear narcissists. Narcissism, to a certain degree, is actually a beneficial trait in the sales game, where the salesman/saleswoman almost always has to leave all morality at the doorstep to optimise their potential earnings. It's an interesting topic, something I'm quite interested in. For what it's worth, I thought Bridges came across quite well in the build-up (although not hard next to the odious Courtenay) and only strengthened her reputation with how hard she tried last night. I thought she had quite a lot of success and actually does some things better than Courtenay, all despite being a maths teacher. If she had picked up the sport earlier than she did (30 years old, I think) then she would have beaten Courtenay handily, and the chest doesn't help either, but it probably got her the bout. If you compare Bridges' heart to someone like Eric Molina, it's night and day. Frankly, I think she might match Molina in boxing ability.
I thought this was still hanging in the balance even after 9 rounds. I thought the draw might have been on. Courtenay did just enough so I was very surprised (or not surprised) with the scorecards. Courtenay left her chin up in the air a lot and Bridges found it plenty of times. I'm not interested in either fighter but credit where it's due they both showed great character and heart.
Great fight and I was very surprised by Bridges who I'm sure gained a lot of peoples respect. I had her down as a mid 30's semi pro chancer, who has seen a way to possible make some quick money with the hype around women's boxing. It's still shocking that she got a world title shot after what 6 fights? I thought she would be out of her depth even against the limited Courtenay. She can really fight, has some ability and showed massive toughness and courage in there. I think she was badly hurt once, and buzzed 3-4 times, in addition to the terrible eye injury. Never showed signs of slowing down or giving up though. The fight was close, if her eye had not closed up rounds 9-10 would have been very interesting. I thought she hurt Courtenay in round 7, but in 8 her eye started to close and she never had the chance to follow up on it.
I have to give props where it's due and I really enjoyed this fight, the both of them went at it and let the leather go. Ebonie Bridges for all the looks and a cracking set of tits is one tough Sheila ! That eye was completely shut for the last 2 or 3 rounds and we've seen men quit for less. I'd happily watch them two go at it again in a rematch
