I don't think it even was as bad as post-Zaire Foreman in all honesty. He never gassed against someone like Foreman did against Young until perhaps his last few fights. Certainly not before prison. His gas tank wasn't the problem against Douglas. It was that he was getting the crap beat out of him throughout the fight. It wasn't like it was an evenly contested fight until Tyson started to gas. He was just never in the fight, except for that brief moment in the 8th.
Ali by close decision in a thrilling back and forth war. If he gets in Tyson's head, Ali by TKO in 10.
That's just it, if Tyson wins the the majority if not all off the first 5 rounds then the fight is his and the questions shifts to if he can close the show early. If Ali is able to hold is own from round 1 and maintain competitiveness and get respect early then the dynamics of the fight may change. An interesting thing to imagine this scenario better is who would be the champion? Who is the challenger? Ali from which fight and Tyson from which fight?
Don't know if it matters who's the champion and who's the challenger. When they both were at their most focussed and motivated, they brought out their best game in either case.
Biggs looked decent in that first round against Tyson ... The difference is that Ali is the master of that style and a prime Ali could sustain it.
After hearing Tyson's latest words on fighting Ali, coming back to this video is cool. Tyson was just as much of a legend in 1989 as he is today.
I honestly think Tyson wouldn't participate much in the pre-fight trash talk, he would only entertain it briefly. He would probably come out beyond pissed during his ring walk.
He never really adjusted to Frazier, and Tyson is similar but better in pretty much every way, that said Ali wasn't prime any time he fought Frazier, he still struggles like Hell with Tyson's style. He was always susceptible to the left hook. I don't think he' be able to evade prime Mike's punches very well at all, he'd need his iron chin that's for sure.
Tyson didn't have anywhere near the stamina and workrate of even a past prime Frazier and Joe was also substantially stronger mentally (not that Tyson was weak, just that Joe was ****ing insane in that regard - the guy was as close to a human pitpull as you can get). And since those two are big parts of a boxer's quality I very much disagree that Tyson was better in pretty much every way.
This debate as well as the poll is faded in a case of doubt against a fighter, who has never been seen in a situation he has to surpass in a fantasy situation, that was build to process happenings. Its like "Evander Holyfield vs Larry Holmes 15 rounds?" Answer: Larry TKO 14. Its nonsense. You can just judge what has been done.
