Maybe so, but I'm sure there are people on the forum who would say they've met Dempsey when they haven't.
When we lived in Jersey, I occasionally visited his restaurant in the late 40's and throughout the 50's. I was probably in there at least 6 times, once with my son, who was pretty young at the time, but he remembers me talking with Jack, who was visiting tables that day. I met the champ twice in there, he shook my hand both times. My impression of him was he was a happy man with a great sense of humor. I'm sure he put his best foot forward with customers. He was pleasant, easy to talk with, and answered questions easily.
Yeah bill, why do you feel the need to cap down on this thread with your negative comment? Run out of General questions to post on classic?
Yes. I asked him where his legendary killer instinct came from? Dempsey: "Fear! I was afraid of most of those guys! I always figured I better get this guy before he gets me." Then Jack chuckled at his own statement.
Well, it's true isn't it? You don't know me very well I guess. Tbh, those couple of threads from the other day were rather uncharacteristic for me. Just ask around.
I'm not the one who had to make a crack about "general questions on the classic forum" (which I actually did not mind) and resort to name-calling, however mild.
