I am happy for Michael Bentt that he got his moment of glory, but we have to be fair to both sides here.

To favor him over Max Baer, you would have to think that no accomplishment in Baers era, could ever be worth anything in Bent's era.

Or perhaps Joe Louis is the only man from that era, who could have beaten this titan, if he could somehow avoid getting clipped?

Time to back this up with some sort of evidence!

Would you prefer me to make up things about Baer's abilities so that I toe the line on absurd narratives that have nothing to do with actual boxing? Baer was a swing for the fences brawler in love with his power, precisely the sort that a Bentt defuses.

Because of his injuries, we don't have a deep resume to go on regarding Bentt. But we have film on both. And I know how Manny felt about Michael. I am content with my assessment.

Any professional > 1970s 6'3" 220lb with a solid record would put Max Baer into the trash can.
Unbelievable what nonsense going circles here :ohno A fellow who´d tango Tony Galento.
On the other hand, what are you gonna expect from a community believing for years Rocky would rule the Klitschkos ? Weight Classes and training method progression were made for the General Discussion, laughing their ass off these monochromatic fappers?

Baer was the result of what a rough better chin of his days lead to fighting 190-Cruiserweights. A result that wasn´t even that well. Watching his fights is all you need to know.
Let him fight Witherspoon, Cooney, Bugner, Lyle, Bruno, Thomas, Norton, McCall, Biggs, Donald whatever. Each of them would would have a high chance to put a clinic on him unless he landed the Wilder Lottery Windmill.

Some real ignorance on this forum from a few who might think winning world-level professional boxing matches is just a matter of having adequate physical dimensions and learning the correct 'mechanics'.

But the men at the very top are actually very often, in fact usually, freaks of nature to some extent.
To some extent the cliché of the boy who walks in the gym and displays uncommon ability to punch and take a punch and just plain fight, maybe a nice kid but he has that killer instinct. The kid the trainer had been hoping would walk in one day. This occurs to different degrees, but raw material is important. And freaks of nature are the best raw material.
And a fighter like Max Baer was a complete freak of nature. That's probably the reason he neglected to develop a refined style and correct skills.

Of course, most of us know this, and the ones arguing the contrary are probably just trolling.

Baer would LOSE to a lot of fighters, no doubt.
But not a guy like Bentt who was a medicore lethargic moderate achiever in the pro ranks, at best.

Fine, but we're talking about Bentt here who doesn't match this criteria.

I've never seen that, most of the best boxers I have seen are coachable athletes who stick with it. Evander Holyfield said that when he started there were lots of kids his age who were as good or better than him. He said they would get a girlfriend or some other "distraction", stay away from the gym for awhile and when they came back, he would be better than them. Mike Tyson said that he would wake up in the middle of the night and shadow box to improve. Ali worked hard as a teen and young boxer. That's my experience, the ones who work hard, learn correct technique, or "mechanics" (that you apparently don't value), are the ones who prosper in boxing.

The ones who come into the gym with a reputation as a tough guy or a physical freak seldom work out. They usually don't like it when they get hit back and they stop coming around. We all have different experiences in life, but my experience has shown me that guys who fight like Max Baer are not effective in the boxing ring. The only place I've seen guys that fight like Baer have success is in the fantasy land of the movies.

And don't compare slow, stiff, mechanical Baer to Deontay Wilder. That is like comparing a plow horse to Secretariat.

Yeah, Baer was never hit back and he was just a bully. Once he got hit in the face, he stopped fighting.

    Are you delusional...?

Bentt's win over Morrison is an anomaly; like a Lewis vs Rahman type of win. While he was a decent amateur I'd be hard pressed to pick him over Baer.

    I would expect a Baer KO mid-rounds.
