I think making Usyk a mandatory was the worst thing for him.

I think the Chisora fight took a lot of the momentum he had built up to that point. He really thought he’d come to HW and it’d be an easy cake walk. The fact that he was made to go life and death and was bullied and physically pushed around by Chisora probably made him reconsider his future in the division. He’s seems to already be kind of half-retired. Not doing many interviews or promoting himself much anymore.

Not likely. He had pre injury period Gassiev and prime Briedis in the ring so not likely he was a dreamer at all.
Gassiev pre injury period and prime Briedis punched better than Chisora ever had and most likely had finished Chisora in distance.
BTW, I really think september 2020 old Briedis or Dorticos had finished Dereck in distance. Also when Briedis had pushed him, ha had been down in this fight. So there he was lucky that later ( Briedis ) most likely had decided to fool him and outbox Usyk and if compare with Lopez vs Loma Usyk appeared to be smarter guy and he wasn't succesful there.

For me looks that he already before this had considered his future.:)
Lurk in boxrec, he is listed also as promoter not only pro boxer. ;)

Great fighter but I'm off the USYK as heavyweight champ hype train. Too small, too old. His vastly superior countryman couldn't even do it with less of a weight gain.

I don't think he needs any hype train.
Looks that he long before fight vs Chisora had choosed his future career preferences.
    BoxRec: Event
Look who is listed in event's promoter's list. Long before fight vs Chisora. Look at the event's date. this is august and Chisora fight was in 31 Oct 2020 So long after this date.

Chisora for him most likely was just next paycheck because doesn't looks that these big uncles want to have him in the ring vs A.J before Fury high sales fights.

Usyk isn't so dumb as westerners are thinking in their mind.

He was out injured for a year prior to fighting Chisora and then covid struck a few months later.

Weird people are accusing Usyk of all people of ducking or being scared

    A fighter who

Beat WBA and IBF champ Gassiev (26-0) in Russia
Beat WBC champ Briedis (23-0) in Latvia
Beat WBO champ Glowacki (26-0) in Poland
Beat former long reigning WBO champ Huck (40-4-1) in Germany
Beat former WBC champ Bellew (30-2-1) in the UK
Beat the streaking Michael Hunter (12-0) in the US
Beat Mchunu (17-2) on neutral soil

And he beat Chisora in the UK and has already beaten Joyce in the UK too

ie. all in their backyards and all of them either savage punching KO artists or legit big bangers sans Mchunu who can punch himself when he wants to

He didn't come close to hitting the canvas against any of them

The vast vast majority of world champions wouldn't even contemplate taking on that level competition in back to back fights (sans the late replacement Witherspoon) in a million years, let alone in their backyards and so very few would be able to do so without getting KTFO or at least hitting the canvas a few times.

In fact, there are ''greats'' many on here worship at the altar of who categorically refused to ever travel to their opponent's backyards because they knew that it would greatly increase their chances of losing whether via hook or crook and that without their obligatory home officials to work their fights they could cheat till their hearts content and have the judges bail them out if that wasn't enough to get them to the finish line first.

Usyk doesn't just beat you in your backyard he does so with zero home officials working his fights and zero use of illegal tactics and cheating

And in case people haven't noticed the fighter he desperately wants to fight next, again in their backyard, is AJ who he has been the mandatory challenger for like 2 years now. He didn't have to fight a single HW to earn his shot because as per the WBO's own rule that mandatory position was his as soon as he moved up. Crawford invoked that rule not once but twice without fighting a single fighter in either division he moved up to prior to his world title shot. Not a single soul had a problem with him waltzing into a world title shot at 140 five months after departing 135 or him doing so at 147 ten months after departing 140 both of which in his home country with six of the eight officials also coming from his home country. Weird that, eh?

And if you think Usyk is a ''cash out'' type of fighter you haven't been paying attention

But we know that no one is actually stupid enough to believe that

Yeah. Even the same Briedis had fought vs Germany's tickets seller Huck in Huck's promotion, LOL, damn:D:p:p:p:p:p rarity in pro boxing.
And Usyk had been did almost the same, at least not in event with co promoter Huck promotional company and still Huck was a tickets seller.

While vs Glowacki who then was 2-0 in World title fights and in Poland, Holy GOD.:nonono.
Even the same Glowacki had balls to fight in U.S and U.K while being from Poland and Usyk had in the ring prime Glowacki.

Yes many of those fighters were immensely popular in their home countries

Briedis can pack out an arena like this fighting the likes of Mike Perez

And obviously AJ draws massive crowds too

And look what Hunter and Mchunu have gone on to do since despite both of those defences of his title being considered his weakest or worst at the time.

I don't agree with the original poster.

Usyk seemed primed to get a quick shot at the title - but then Fury stopped Wilder and indicated he wanted Joshua.

Lots of people were interested in Usyk fighting Joshua until Ruiz Jr stopped Joshua and Fury stopped Wilder. The division has moved on from a Usyk-Joshua matchup.

It wouldn't really surprise me if Usyk retires without fighting again. There's almost guaranteed to be a Fury-Joshua rematch for the loser. And negotiations for a match with Fury are more involved than Middle East peace negotiations. And even the Joe Joyce fight looks to be going through protracted nonsense with a purse bid. I think Usyk is looking at 18 months - at least - before he gets a title shot. He'd be more than 35 1/2 by then...and it's doubtful his body would allow him fight the same way at that age as he did several years earlier.

Um, I am pretty sure that when it comes to boxing, Usyk has out-earned Paul.
And even if Paul does eventually make more money in boxing, then I don´t really see how they are comparable. Paul brothers built up massive followings on social media. They are promotional power houses. When Usyk was a teen he was working his way up the amateur boxingladder. The Paul brothers were working their way up the fame ladder.

Let’s be very clear Serge I don’t believe Usyk is scared of anybody. He is not wired that way nor are most top fighters. What I am saying is that he would rather not have to fight Joyce for an interim title which is actually understandable. No one particularly relishes fighting Joe Joyce only the naive like Dubois looked forward to it. Those of us in the game knew it was foolhardy and a serious error in judgment by Queensbury. Usyk just wants to fight for the heavyweight title preferably against AJ or Fury or whoever is the reigning champion. Chances are to me 50:50 he could win out boxing the bigger guys or he could get steamrolled by the bigger guys.

Especially Huck after fight vs 32 y.o Pov. Like he had lost but he did not had lost anything as a businessman.

Yeah. I think best sales they had with full card Dorticos vs Tabiti & Briedis vs Glowacki + Bolotņiks fight on undercard. Bolotņiks fight was real 50/50 matchup and also these two fights too. If not knowing shape this Briedis does have.
