So wait a minute, now you can be a WBA "Super" Champion without unifying a belt?

I just saw that the WBA now has Arsen Goulamirian as its "Super" Champion. I thought that that the whole point of having a "Super" champion was so that the belt can remained unified while they have a "regular" company champion that defends that belt separately.

So now they have three champions...and NONE of them are unified.

It is time to close the book on this organization. From now on, the entire boxing community should decline to purchase fights with WBA "titles" at stake, and should cease speaking of their organization and their "champions" entirely.

The whole point of having a super champion is getting money. This allows them to get more money.

Quite frankly, anyone taking the WBA seriously at this point is a part of the problem, and I include fighters in that.

The problem same as the WBC belt is that the WBA belt is a prestigious and somewhat historic belt. Deep down the belts fighters want most is the WBC and WBA.

It's a shame the weight of history holds such sway over that type of money-grubbing, leeching and make-believe in the now.

Unfortunately it is what it is and I don’t see it changing at all, more is the pity. To many belts out there. Very soon we shall get the WBA Youtubers belt.

Sad but true. We may even get a WBC Eastside boxing belt.

We'll never get it because Canelo's already wearing it.

The whole super champion, regular champion, interim champion nonsense is pretty much my number one complaint about boxing currently. Why not just make everyone a champion while they're at it...it's already completely devalued.

Looks that they does have multiple belts: at least these belts: super. regular. internim. inter continental. maybe more.
    champ in recess title.

In that thread I half jokingly suggested we vote on one champ per weight division and make them the recognised ESB holder. Whether it's viable or not I'm not sure, but the current setup with 4 alphabet bodies, plus the IBO, then Ring, Boxrec, Lineal etc is an utter offence to the meaning of the word 'World'.

Boxing needs The Highlander to start appearing when these bogus belts appear, waving a big sword and menacingly declaring 'there can be only one'

Does it really make a difference? It’s not affecting boxing negatively. Nobody cares about champions, they care about the fighters.

Only 2-4 titles really matter and hold weight:
    - Pound 4 Pound ranking - it’s by no accident that the top p4p fighters garner the most attention, they’re the best and with that come attention.

    - Undisputed/Unified.

    - Lineal/Ring champ - this actually has a case for being the best fighter in the division.

I don’t think anyone ever said to themselves “I will watch a fight tonight because an abc champion is fighting”. It literally means nothing.

It only means something when it’s a unification bout, in which case, it’s actually good for the sport that unifications happen.

If there were only one or two belts in boxing then it would be much harder to dodge mandatories. Also, Mandatories would actually be meaningful fights. In an era without so many belts we wouldn't see situations like Spence/Crawford not fighting, May/Pac happening 5 years too late, or GGG/Canelo happening 2 years late. We would have actually seen Wilder vs AJ.

Even worse is them allowing Nery vs Figueroa to be advertised as an unification fight when Figueroa is just the regular champion. This is utter nonsense when considering the Super champion is already unified with the IBF.
