Nearly 31 years ago !! Great fight .I wonder why Doug was was so reckless in fights ?. Any memories of this fight .I know some British went out to Atlantic city
I felt sorry for Doug. He took a bad beating in this match, though I agree he showed a lot of heart. I believe this was the fight right after his epic slug fest with Mathew Hilton on the undercard of Foreman vs Cooney. Dewitt vs Hilton was an underrated fight which rarely gets mention.
It’s like asking, I wonder why that rattlesnake keeps biting anything that gets close, or I wonder why that shark keeps eating smaller fish. It was his nature.
He could actually box very well though as shown v Hearns - kept his fence up when jabbing, doubled up jabs and hooks. Benn surprised me how badly he beat him. It was actually horrific. Round 1 could’ve been 10-8 Benn. Round 2 he went down, got up and smashed DeWitt with a hideously hard punch; 10-8 DeWitt. Always mad watching Benn
One of my favourite fights...some tremendous talent and skill in all the brawling.Dewitt was talented...just don't know why he kept his chin so up in the air .He was erratic as hell...looked like he had an iron chin vs Hearns ...but against Quinones and Kalambay he didnt......he handles a fast fisted hard punching Hilton than gets wiped out by another fast fisted hard puncher in his next fight.
