Porter won't be trying to move and box like Hooker, Style make fights Oritz has a chance to stop him.
Um... did you see his matches against Garcia and Spence? Yeah, Porter will be trying to move, a lot, presenting Vergil with a brand new puzzle in every new round. Porter is deceptively slick and adjusts incredibly well, he might be the most versatile fighter at 147. That being said, I do think Vergil will be too much for him, however stylistically, Porter might be the worst opponent possible for him.
Ortiz is young, I still slightly favor Porter. I think he could spoil Ortiz's momentum and show him something he doesn't yet know how to adapt to. In a year or two it will be the other way.
What a fantastic matchup that I didn’t even think of, I would love to see it. if they are serious about the Crawford fight. Why not test your medal with Porter?
This is a good fight on paper. I’m leaning towards Ortiz by KO but Porter is experienced and very talented. He gave Spence a great fight and beat Garcia. It would be a great test for Ortiz. Porter is just a shade below top level at 148. If Ortiz beats him soundly, he’s ready for the biggest names. I hope he does because it makes things interesting in a strong division where the biggest names don’t want to fight each other.
Um those fights happen like 3 years ago and neither hit as hard as Ortiz, and Porter will soon be 34 years old.
I think Porter might be able to wear this kid down. Porter's trump card is that he never ever gets tired and he could come at him a variety of ways. He could apply relentless pressure for a round or two and when Ortiz gets comfortable with that, start running around and boxing and in and out and then back to the pressure and then not, etc. Never let him get comfortable. Kind of like Andre Ward; just as the opponent starts to think he knows what's gonna happen next and begins to adjust to it, do something from an entirely different angle. After awhile it just gets worse and worse and more confusing and frustrating and dude just never seems to slow down or do what you're ready for and **** it I QUIT (mentally)! I could see Porter winning like this. Probably wouldn't get the KO cause he rarely does, but he might could make Ortiz tired and confused and frustrated (especially in the second half of the fight) for a solid UD.
Be an interesting yardstick to see how Ortiz fared against him compared to how E-Spence did. I along with many others had Porter winning that one albeit the late KD might have been enough to snatch a draw if you want to generous to E-Spence. Maybe they should make this one next and if Ortiz gets past him we can see him against E-Spence afterwards and while Ortiz and Porter are duking it out with each other Crawford could face Bootsy Ennis. And if Ortiz gets past Porter and E-Spence and Bootsy Ennis gets past Crawford we could finally see a proper unification match up at 147 because E-Spence and Crawford are too busy playing the barking dogs either side of the fence game and have no intention of ever actually seeking out that smoke against each other.
I really like Verg, offensively he’s great, but he could use a couple more fights to work on his defense before stepping up to the big boys. The way the scrawny, soft punching Mo Hooker lumped him up, means he might be a sweller. So he better tighten up that D with that aggressive, walk forward style of his before getting in with a high level guy who can punch. He’s got plenty of time at just 23.
I didn't know September of 2019 was 3 years ago.Look, I'm clearly a huge fan of Vergil's, I've been hyping the **** out of him for about 2 years, but... we don't know if he hits harder than Spence or Garcia. The only comparison we have is Samuel Vargas, and Spence got him out of there in 3, while Danny and Vergil got him out in 7. So that's far too little info to use to come to any definitive conclusions. Granted he hits hard, but there's no real way to gauge which of the three hit hardest yet, so I'm hesitant to jump to conclusions. Also, didn't say he wouldn't win, merely that stylistically, Porter is the hardest of any Welterweight aside from Crawford for Rotiz to have to deal with.
