Matchroom has left Sly Sports https://theathletic.com/news/eddie-hearn-dazn-matchroom-contract-sky/NYr8BZEx52BR Tony Dosh PPV and Pudding Whyte not included in the DAZN deal
If AJ carries on after losing to Fury and goes to DAZN this might work for a while, without him it won't be a success. Early days and we don't know the details but without a 24 news channel and commercials on Sky running all day for the latest PPV think Eddie might be in for a rude awakening.
Hopefully Sky have a full review of their boxing strategy over the last 5 years, sack the clowns responsible and come up with a fresh revised strategy to revive boxing content on Sky including opening up to all promoters.
Really strange move in my opinion. I think Eddie has underestimated the power Sky have in helping him drag in the casual viewers. However a 9 figure contract is definitely one you can’t turn down. As a boxing fan I hope this gives us much better quality fight nights and more frequently too. Hopefully means Hearn beefs up his UK stable too.
Hearn has played a blinder as he has got a fortune of DAZN for basically Saturday Fight night type shows whilst being able to put Joshua and Whyte on Sky PPV. He has got the best of both from what I can see.
Not sure how all these Sports subscriptions benefits fans of sport. We now have in existence: 1. Sky Sports 2. BT Sports 3. Premier Sports 4. Amazon Prime 5. DAZN 6. Sky Sports Box Office 7. BT Sports Box Office
I know we should all leave him alone, but has he took him with him!!! Fingers crossed in anticipation of an announcement that he has gone, i would buy their final PPV just to see the last of him!!!
I believe Eh day agreed a nine figure deal instead of a ten figure deal after negotiating that Bellew should stay at home to be left alone.
DAZN have been tin pot. The production values have been terrible. Hearn talked a good game when they first emerged, but it's been amateurish. I'm surprised by this move. Maybe he sees potential in them but on the face of it I would say a lot of his success is down to Sky. They have the customer base, brand recognition and reach to make people household names. They have done that with AJ, Whyte, Chisora etc and even Hearn himself. Matchroom and Sky have been good for each other. DAZN on the other hand are nobodies and don't have anything to entice customers in other than cheap prices. Without Sky pushing the Matchroom narrative constantly how likely to tune in are casuals (who Matchroom/Sky have done a terrific job of exploiting) going to be?
