I feel Nelson looked awful at 135 v Whitaker but how would he have fared v Loma`s 135lbs opposition?

Yes, he got hit far more and Loma finished far stronger v Lopez than Nelson did v Whitaker plus Lopez had a power advantage over Loma while Nelson could walk through Pea`s punches.

you arent taking into account the gulf in talent between pea and teo. one looked not so great against an atg, the other one against a kid who just ran neck and neck with nakatani.

Sorry but even Loma on an off night was more skilled than Nelson who was very limited banger with fast hands.

He wasn`t using his trademark feints to set up his straight left you could see that, he was gunshy for the first six rounds because of Lopez`s power.

Nelson wasn`t a skilled fighter, he got by with power and athleticism, he even struggled with Jim McDonell.

My Uncle Azumah Nelson destroys them all including Loma. Uncle use to toy with Weltwerweights in the gym when he was Featherweight champion of the world. I remember the great Hector Camacho when he was lightweight world champion politely declining to fight Uncle when enquiries were made of Uncke challenging for his title. Also instructive was in the gym Julio Cesar Chavez intensely studying Uncle training after he had finished training. At that time Uncle Azumah was the WBC Featherweight Champion of the world and Julio Cesar Chaves was the Junior Lightweight World Champion. A journalist observing the great Chavez studying Nelson asks what JCC thought of Nelson and the superstar JCC response was and I quote “ He is a tremendous fighter in excellent physical condition. I look forward to the day he moves up in weight to fight for my title”. Game knows game! Even Pernell Whittaker was waxing lyrical about Uncle after their fight saying it would have been suicidal to go toe to toe with him.

Well there`s no way Whitaker could have won that bout toe to toe, he did beat the welterweight McGirt going toe to toe in that rematch and there``s no way Nelson could have done that.

He was very skillful a completer fighter. See the exhibition against the tough as nails Mario “Azabache” Martinez specifically the 2nd fight. It was an exhibition of old school skills before putting his lights out in round 12. Hell look at his whole career. You need skills to defeat the murderers list of opponents he faced and defeated.
