1) Floyd drained him to death 2) Toney is not Floyd 3) Canelo is much better at 160 + than he was at the lighter weights. His gas tank is better and his power is better and his skills have improved. 4) You can get your Floyd fix when he beats up that random youtuber
I think that Toney's height and reach advantage gives him the edge here. But I think it would be an intriguing and competitive fight between Canelo of today and Toney of 93-94.
Nah, it is just that with this poster BCS8 you can't discuss objectively. He is picking Canelo because he fought and "beat" GGG who he is in love with. I am kinda forced to take this route.
I can discuss why I think Canelo is slightly ahead of Toney with reference to technique and footage. I could point out how Canelo better integrates his defence into his offence. I could point out other things like how Canelo is much much more disciplined than Toney and that you kinda HAVE to toss Toney a bone and pick the very best version of him, because we don't see the very best version of him every outing. Canelo comes in 100% for every fight and if they had a series of 3 he'd be 1 up on Toney somewhere in the series simply because Toney would drop one of the fights by training at the burger stand. But, I already know that you're one of Toney's greatest fans and dismiss all that as bias, so imma not bother. Where I will give Toney kudos is that he never (as far as I recall) stacked the deck like Canelo does in his fights. If Toney had custom judges, clenbuterol and special rehydration clauses he might well be better than Canelo.
Canelo's best outing at 160 and above is probably Golovkin II - (could even be considered a career-best performance). Toney is more accomplished at 160 and above than Canelo, in what were better quality bouts, IMO. I strongly suspect that the best version of Toney would make Canelo (of the Golovkin II bout) look a little less special than people have come to regard him. Toney wins by a fairly emphatic UD.
That maybe true but he also has some great wins over some great fighters like McCallum, Reggie Johnson, Jirov, just to name a few
I've always despised Toney..I've never liked him....so there's no favoritism going on here....I think that Toney would have thoroughly outclassed that redheaded putz from Mexico, and maybe even have stopped him.
Canelo was not in his prime for that bout. We're talking and always talk prime for prime. Personally I go with Canelo at 160 and Man Boobs from 168 and above.
James Toneys natural talent is a level above Canelos. And his ring iq was vastly superior. Skillwise its clear who was better. Theres really no question who wins, even at 160lb
